SUPER BOWL LIV: SAN FRANCISCO 49ers VS. KANSAS CITY CHIEFS (FOX Sports 6:40 P.M.)

This Super Bowl Sunday features two of the best NFL teams, Art Scott’s San Francisco 49ers and the Kansas City Chiefs with quarterback phenom Patrick Mahomes. The Chiefs are favored by 1-point. Diane and I are going to skip the Super Bowl blah, blah, blah and go see a play in the afternoon. But, we’ll be back home by kickoff. We’ll be rooting for Art Scott’s team, but something tells me the Chiefs might win this one. Who do you think will win the Super Bowl? Are you preparing any Super Bowl goodies?

Chiefs! I used to like the 49ers but once they tolerated that kneeling asshole I changed my mind! Plus, they’re Seahawk division rivals and I’m not allowed to like them!

I’m with you. There are a few non-New York teams I always root for, and the 49ers are among them, but I don’t know if they will be able to overcome Mahomes’s running and gunning. It might come down to defense and turnovers, who knows? Let’s just hope it is not another dud like last year’s snooze fest.

Like you, I skip the hype and the hours of pre-game blather. In fact, I skip everything but the game, most definitely including the halftime show. We will be going out for a Japanese buffet lunch, so no Super Bowl eating here.

Punxsutawney Phil and Staten Island Chuck both “predicted” an early Spring, according to reports. That’s not a surprise, considering how mild the winter has been so far.

Don’t really care who wins, but naturally we will be watching. John will be making chicken wings (they’re in the fridge, marinating in hot sauce and buttermilk, right now) and I’ll be making guacamole. Last year, he and I managed to get through 48 wings. This year we bought 56! Bring it!

Hot/spicy—and I’m happy with either ranch or blue cheese. We use Frank’s Original Hot Sauce for the wings. I also use Frank’s when I make my crowd-pleasing pot-luck favorite Buffalo Chicken Dip.

Yay, guacamole! Wings I can do without. Too much work for not much reward. On the other hand, maybe I shouldn’t say that, as I will be peeling boiled shrimps by the plateful at lunchtime.

Jeff, Patrick is a big fan of guacamole. He whips up a wonderful dip! I bake my wings so the work is minimal. But plenty of my friends have deep friers for chicken wings and other delights!

Guacamole is our favourite dip too!
Though it’s sometimes difficult to get good avocados in Hungary and in Germany.

This is one of those rare Super Bowls where I don’t dislike either team. No Patriots or Saints (sorry, Deb) to pull against. I actually like both teams and am just hoping for a good game that goes down to the wire.

I’m torn on this one. Hated the way the niners first treated Alex Smith, then how horrible they were to Colin Kaepernik. At first I didn’t like what he was doing, but when it was explained, I supported him. Kneeling is a way of honoring, and he stood up for the horrendous treatment of people of color in this country. Plus the Impotent Impotus hates him. But they are a California team.

I used to root against the chiefs as they were always a big threat to our team, but when the Judas’s left, especially now that Gates and Rivers are gone, love anyone who plays them (except maybe the cowboys (hate Jerry Jones) and Patriots.

I think Mahomas is going to really make a splash and the Chiefs are lucky to have him. I won’t be upset if either wins, unless there are dirty players or bad calls.

Maggie, I’m hoping for Mahomas to light up the Super Bowl with some spectacular plays. Rivers might retire…or play for the Miami Dolphins.

Bob Speray’s coming over to watch with me and I’m doing ribs. He also came by for the conference championships and I did wings (modified Alton Brown recipe). He’s bringing dessert. I’d like to see the Niners win, but am mainly hoping for a competitive game. With all the experts predicting a tight game, we just might get a blowout. I never watch anything but the game itself, and pay scant attention to the commercials (love that mute button). If one of the commercials causes a sensation I’ll hear about it next day and can see it online.

Art, I’ll be happy if the 49ers win. Same with the Chiefs. I have no dog in this fight. Tell Bob Speray that I have an appointment next week with an Apnea Care representative to talk about the Dreamwear CPAP masks.

Wolf, this Super Bowl–if it’s competitive to the end of the game–has the potential to be the highest rated Super Bowl in terms of viewers.

rick, maybe more time for all the hype?? I love the commercials Have seen one IIRC, Doritos with Sam Elliott the sound was too low, so looking forward to that one (He just gets better with age)

Maggie, the Super Bowl commercials are a big draw for me, too! I used to use them in my Marketing classes. The students loved analyzing them!

Rick, ratings, ratings, ratings. I’m sure the NFL has done innumerable marketing studies that prove conclusively that at 6:40 P.M. ET is the most optimum for high audience viewership.

I walked out during the 3rd quarter and when I came back the Chiefs had drawn to within 3 points! I take credit for that! I stayed until the end and was rewarded with the Chiefs scoring two TDs and sealing the win!

I get that Rick isn’t feeling well, but boring? Seriously? It was 10-10 at that point (the half), and clearly there was better to come. Last year there was ONE TOUCHDOWN (scored in the fourth quarter) and three field goals, period. There were FOURTEEN PUNTS! Now that was one of the worst, most boring games ever, let alone Super Bowls. So no, RIck, this was not boring in any way, shape, or form.

Mahomes has a way of making it happen (remember the playoff game) I enjoyed lots of the commercials, one of the favorite funny ones was Sam Elliott dancing for doritos. And of course the golden retriever cancer survivor (jeff had alerted me to that). I recorded the game (something I usually do to skip commercials) but this time I went back and watched some favorites again – Bill Murray one was another great one

I am still stunned. I wanted it, and certainly thought we had a good shot, but by the end of the third quarter I felt like the offense was sleep walking and wasn’t going to wake up. So glad I was wrong and that the offense stepped up and the defense found another gear. Wow! Super Bowl champs. It is fun to be in Kansas City today.
