If you’re looking for some entertaining sword & sorcery action, Simon R. Green’s Hawk and Fisher series merits a look. Green wrote these six fantasy novels back in the early 1990s and ACE BOOKS published them. The audience for these books would be Young Adults, but I enjoyed them anyway. Hawk and Fisher are a husband and wife team on the City Guard, an order which polices Green’s fantasy world. They operate in the port city of Haven, a corrupt city-state. Each of Hawk and Fisher’s adventures deals with magic and mystery. There’s no complex plotting or characterizations here, just light entertainment. Penguin has collected all the Hawk and Fisher novels in two omnibus collections. Buy them before they go out-of-print! GRADE: B (for all the novels)
This completes the June part of Carl V.’s fantasy challenge and that completes the challenge. To learn more about the fantasy challenge, click here.
Eh! Greetings from Spain! Here in Spain ar epublished the four first books. But the 5th and 6th not. sad, why i like this kind of book. Sometimes, only need fun and enternaiment, and Hawk & Fisher gives it. Glad to konow there is this two omnibus with all the series ^^
You’ll enjoy GUARD AGAINST DISHONOR and THE BONES OF HAVEN, Deka. However, this omnibus was also published under the title FEAR AND LOATHING IN HAVEN. The stories had different titles, but it is exactly the same book as GUARDS OF HAVEN.
That’s funny – I recently picked up the first volume. I guess I should get the second one too.
Then I just need to read them….
The HAVEN series is a quick read, Jeff. Like eating potato chips.

Either like minds think alike, or synchronicity strikes again. I had my reviews of the first two Hawk and Fisher books all queued up to appear next week, but when I read yours, I decided to go ahead and post them today.
You (and everyone) can read them at http://mysteryfile.com/blog/?p=2135

I prefer to think that Great Minds Think Alike, Steve, rather than resort to synchronicity. I enjoyed your reviews of Hawk & Fisher. The early books had some nice mystery elements, but the series became weaker in the later books.
I have all six, but hae only read the first couple. if I can find the time….
I whipped through all six books fairly quickly, Randy. The early titles are the best.
