Diane and I finally caught up with this frothy concoction based on the Brothers Grimm Rapunzel. In Tangled, Rapunzel (Mandy Moore) is a princess (although she doesn’t know she is). Rapunzel has been kidnapped as a baby and now she is locked in an isolated tower. Rapunzel has very long hair with magical properties that can heal the injured and generate youth. Mother Gothel, an elderly crone, stole Rapunzel from her royal parents in order to stay young forever. But when Rapunzel turns 18, a thief, Flynn Ryder (Zachary Levi), climbs Rapunzel’s tower to escape his pursuers, Rapunzel decides to trust the rogue and convinces Flynn to help her escape. Tangled is Disney’s 50th full-length, animated film. Like most contemporary animated films, this movie operates on two levels: one for the kids and another for adults. With music by Alan Menken, Tangled is one of the best of Disney’s musical confections. GRADE: A
I think that they hedged a bit in counting 50 – was Peter and the Wolf really full length?
Never-the-less, Tangled was terrific and I highly recommend it – especially after the disappointment of The Princess and the Frog
You’re right, Stan. TANGLED is terrific.
I thought this was most entertaining but my grandson declared it a girl movie. Too bad by three (which he was then) they already label things.
Your grandson is right, Patti. TANGLED is a “girl” movie if you define it as a girl who is powerful and takes control of her life. The labeling process starts early.
I’m moving this to the top of the Netflix queue.
Good move, Bill! You and Judy will really like TANGLED.
I’m looking forward to this one. All the adults I know who’ve seen it loved it.
You will really like TANGLED, Beth. I was amazed at Mandy Moore’s performance! Excellent!
I must say this makes me more interested in perhaps seeing it. I just wish we could get into some kind of movie-watching schedule here, I’ve had a DVD from Netflix sitting for almost 3 months, still unwatched, and it’s one we both want to see. Sigh. Maybe one of these days…
You need to make Tuesday night (or anything other night) Movie Night in your house, Rick. Building movie watching into your schedule on a regular basis really works. You and your wife will enjoy TANGLED!
