The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel stars Judi Dench and Maggie Smith. Around these two women, the rest of the ensemble revolve. Fans of Bill Nighy, Tom Wilkinson, Dev Patel, Celia Imrie, Ronald Pickup, and Penelope Wilton, will love this movie about a group of aging Brits who stay at a run-down hotel in India. Based on the 2004 novel, These Foolish Things, by Deborah Moggach, the film offers fun and some serious moments. John Madden, director of Shakespeare in Love, keeps things moving. A light, but entertaining movie. GRADE: B+
That’s funny, we’re going to see it today. You can’t go wrong with that cast, IMHO.
You and Jackie are going to enjoy THE BEST EXOTIC MARIGOLD HOTEL, Jeff. It’s light and funny.
I saw this last Friday and loved it.
This is one instance where I can’t imagine the book is better than the movie. I think the full impact of the culture shock of India has to be seen to be appreciated.
I’ll definitely be buying this DVD.
You’re right about the crush of people in India, Beth. It has to be seen to be believed.
We both liked it a lot, though I can tell you it did not make Jackie want to go to India. Beautiful scenery, and yes – that most definitely includes Tena Desae as the beautiful Sunaina. Jackie pointed out that Dev Patel is not that good looking but he sure ends up with gorgeous women in the movies!
No way I’m traveling to India, either, Jeff. A movie about India is as close as I feel comfortable with.
Been looking forward to this one for a long time. Hopefully Mary and I can get out to see it this weekend.
You’re going to enjoy THE BEST EXOTIC MARIGOLD HOTEL, Carl. But I thought you’d going to see MEN IN BLACK 3.
