I used to watch “American Bandstand” and “Soul Train” back-to-back every Saturday afternoon when I was in my teens (the long-ago 1970s)–I loved the Soul Train dance line and don’t even start talking about the fashions! This one is on my Christmas wish list!
THE BEST OF SOUL TRAIN will bring back plenty of memories, Deb. It would make a great Christmas present!
I bet the fashions on this are incredible, in every sense of the word.
In recent years we’ve seen Smokey and Stevie and Aretha in concert. And the O’Jays were on at the Jon Stewart “sanity” concert.
It’s amazing how many “stars” appeared on SOUL TRAIN, Jeff. Dozens of great acts perform on these DVDs.
Like Deb, I watched both and was often blown away by both the musical and dancing ability on Soul Train. It was clearly the more interesting show. I saw Stevie in 1966 with the Supremes and he just knocked us out. My husband actually went backstage to tell him–he would never do that today. How things change.
And Don Cornelius was much more compelling than the bland Dick Clark, Patti. Wow, the Supremes and Stevie Wonder! What a great concert! Phil did the right thing!
In most cases, I’d rather hear it than see it.
The sound on these DVDs is pretty good, Rick. You could play the sound through your stereo easily.
