THE BRIDGE, SEASON ONE FINALE

the bridge2
The Bridge concludes tonight on the FX cable network at 10 P.M. EDT. The roller coaster ride that started with the discovery of a body in the middle of the bridge between El Paso and Juarez triggers several subplots: a smuggling operation between the U.S. and Mexico using a tunnel, a serial killer, the murder of a group of illegal immigrants, etc. I really like the two main characters: Diane Kruger as Det. Sonya Cross, a member of the El Paso Police Department who has Asperger syndrome and Demián Bichir as Det. Marco Ruiz, a homicide detective from Mexico. Of course, it’s odd that this series is based on the Danish/Swedish TV series of the same name. Like The Killing I think the pace of the series is slow. But there’s flashes of action and drama that holds the audience’s interest. I have no idea if The Bridge has been canceled, but if it returns next summer I’ll watch it.

I agree, they make it worth watching. I must admit Jackie makes me fast forward through the Annabeth Gish sections. I’m still not sure how they are meant to fit in with the rest of the story, other than her sleeping with Marco once.

Jeff, if Annabeth Gish’s character had any sense she’d sell the “ranch” with the tunnel and take those millions back to Tampa. Flirting with a Mexican drug lord is extremely stupid.

George, I’ll bet if you watched an hour long episode of any of the westerns from the 60s (try “Cheyenne” for example, or “Maverick”) you find the pace too slow. Everyone wants a fast, fast pace these days, it seems. I like the shows with more introspection. I’d watch an episode of “Morse” or “Foyle’s War” over shows like this one any day.

Rick, MTV changed the pacing of everything. There’s slow and then there’s glacial. The pace of THE KILLING (especially Season One) was glacial. THE BRIDGE is a bit more perky.

George, if this serial is currently running in the US then it will be quite a while before it comes to my part of the world, that is if it does at all. Some of the television dramas, excluding sitcoms, currently aired here include Breaking Bad, Arrow. Man Up, Lost, The Vampire Diaries, Rookie Blue, The Killing, Spooks, and reruns of The X-Files.
