When I was kid back in 1955-1956, I wanted to be Wyatt Earp. Wyatt Earp was played by Hugh O’Brian who, like George Cooney today, radiated intelligence and class. AMAZON wants $32.49 for this set. I found it at BJ’s WAREHOUSE for $16.99! That’s for 35 half-hour episodes (on 4 DVDs)! Guest stars included Angie Dickinson, Mike Connors, John Carradine, James Coburn, and Louise Fletcher. Wyatt Earp was made when Hollywood still knew how to make Westerns. If you want to listen to the Wyatt Earp Theme Song, click here.
A top old show that I enjoy. But I just bought a special Earp DVD collection (that O’Brian released a year or so ago) and I will probably wait awhile before buying this.
I found the $16.99 price irresistible, David. That’s for 19 hours of programs!
Until Maverick came along, he was my favorite cowboy. No, wait there was Sugarfoot, too. And Cheyenne was pretty hunky. You can see I didn’t watch for the plot.
You have very good taste in cowboys, Patti. I was a fan of Maverick, Sugarfoot, and Cheyenne as well. When I could stay up “late” I enjoyed HAVE GUN, WILL TRAVEL and GUNSMOKE.
Geezer Alert!
I loved Wyatt Earp too, and can still sing the theme song. He and Davy Crockett were my favorites in that era.
Later on I did watch Cheyenne and Sugarfoot and Maverick, as well as Have Gun Will Travel and Wanted: Dead or Alive.
Your TV watching matched my own, Jeff. I loved all those classic Westerns. Now, they’re extinct.
Great tip, George. I didn’t know this was finally out. If you enjoy the acapella soundtrack by Ken Darby and the King’s Men, you might try The Adventures of Jim Bowie – The Complete Series (also a Desilu production). I have Cheyenne season 1. Now if Warner Bros would only release the complete Maverick.
I’ve heard that MAVERICK is in the works, Evan. I’ll check out THE ADVENTURES OF JIM BOWIE.
I loved this show, though truth is I don’t remember anything much of it, other than O’Brien (who had a great voice, too) starred in it. Of the shows mentioned already, I liked HAVE GUN WILL TRAVEL and CHEYENNE. Other personal favorites were HIGH CHAPPARAL and TALES OF WELLS FARGO.
I couldn’t resist WYATT EARP for $16.99, Rick. That’s 19 hours of viewing pleasure! I liked HIGH CHAPARRAL and TALES OF WELLS FARGO, too.
