THE LOVE AFFAIR COLLECTION BEOLAB 18 [Bang & Olufsen]

Bang and Olufsen Love Affair Collection
Temptation. Every day I resist it. My latest temptations involve these cool Bang & Olufsen BeoLab 18 speakers. I love the rose-gold aluminum and walnut wood design. These wireless speakers can free-stand or be mounted on a wall. Each speaker houses two 160-watt amplifiers which spread the sound 180 degrees. These speakers only cost $9,100.00 a pair.

Maybe Art Scott will weigh in on this.

The price is a limited time offer: the first speaker for only $9,099.00 and the second for only $1.00. It’s the steal of a century, George, designed for savvy bargain hunters like you. Jump on it!

Wow, that’s a lot of mulah. The real question to answer is how do they sound?. Beauty is fine, but it’s sound that really matters. Are you unhappy with your current speakers?

Rick, with speakers, there’s always room for improvement. I’ll have to see if our audiophile equipment seller, THE SPEAKER SHOP, carries these Bang & Olufsen speakers. But, I’d need Art Scott (aka, The Golden Ear) to rate the speakers.

The high-end audio community hasn’t taken B&O seriously for decades. Form trumps function for them; it’s as if they have a team of sculptors/industrial designers producing eye-candy components. Once the prototypes get oohs & ahhs from the Modern Home magazine types, they send them down to some long-suffering electronics geeks chained in the basement with instructions to stick cones & wires into the things so they make some sort of sound. Strictly for folks who want to impress their neighbors with their decor, not their sound system.

Rick, I totally agree. That’s why I had Art Scott pick out my stereo system. It sounds great! But, I was seduced by the cool design of these Ban & Olufsen speakers. Now, I’m over them.

I went and looked at some of the online B&O promotional material for this thing. The copy makes a big thing out of the speakers being wireless – i.e., no unsightly cables to clutter up the floor and ruin your spartan, harmonious & oh so Scandinavian room decor. The copy says very little about how they sound. They’d make beautiful space heaters, though!
