I just found out about this quirky series that was shown on the ABC Family cable network. It’s a humorous blend of The X-Files and Dudley Do-Right. The Middle Man was based on the Viper Comics series, The Middleman, created by Grillo-Marxuach and Les McClaine. The series ran for one season in 2008 but it’s well worth seeking out. Weird things happen and The Middle Man shows up to battle the mystical monster or the deadly galactic alien. Matt Keeslar plays the Middleman by channeling Adam West. I really like his side-kick, Natalie Morales as Wendy Watson (who is full of surprises). If you’re looking for something completely different, I recommend The Middle Man. I may have to track down the Viper Comic editions. GRADE: B+
Never heard of it but certainly sound alike fun – thanks George.
Sergio, I never heard of THE MIDDLE MAN, either. Not the Viper Comics version or the TV version. But I really enjoyed this off-beat series. You will too!
Another item I’ve touted repeatedly on my blog. Of all things, the second excellent series that died, even on ABC Family the cable station in this case, because it didn’t draw like the awful CSI: MIAMI opposite on CBS Monday nights at 10p.
The earlier wonderful series was NBC’s JOURNEYMAN.
Todd, I’ll take a look at JOURNEYMAN. You were right on the money with THE MIDDLE MAN!
Jackie has watched a couple of ABC Family series over the years but I’m sure like the rest of us here she never heard of this one. It sounds amusing.
Have fun at THE HOBBIT tonight!
Jeff, THE MIDDLE MAN is amusing. It’s worth a look. I’m having Second Thoughts about THE HOBBIT. But, I already bought a ticket.
I forget to follow the offerings of networks like this. And probably miss some fun.
Patti, THE MIDDLE MAN is silly fun. But, it’s well done.
I’ll bet you didn’t know this either: Matt Keeslar retired from acting in 2010 to pursue a career in science. He graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Reed College with a biology degree in May 2014. His biology thesis explored the effects of antimalarials on the brains of frogs.
Jeff, you come up with the most amazing facts!
George, though it’s mostly battles, I’ll bet you enjoy The Hobbit. I got the soundtrack yesterday, but haven’t listened to it yet.
Rick, I heard that the soundtrack to THE HOBBIT: BATTLE OF THE FIVE ARMIES is great as is the soundtrack to INHERENT VICE (the movie based on the Thomas Pynchon book).
Right after reading your review, George, I went straight to Amazon. They told me that I bought the complete set way back in 2009. Who remembered? I’m sure it arrived, but have no idea where I put it.
Steve, I’ve had that experience, too. But, if you find THE MIDDLE MAN box set, you’ll be in for hours of entertainment!
