This set contains many of Noel Coward’s best plays. The performances are delightful Coward is at his bitchy best in these classic works. GRADE: A
Nice. We’ve seen a lot of Coward over the years: PRIVATE LIVES with Maggie Smith & John Standing; HAY FEVER at The Gate in Dublin in 1981 and in London in 1999; PRESENT LAUGHTER with Donald Sinden in 1981 and with Victor Garber on Broadway two years ago; WAITING IN THE WINGS with Lauren Bacall and Rosemary Harris in 2000; and the short plays NOEL COWARD IN TWO KEYS (the original was THREE KEYS as I recall) with Hume Cronyn & Jessica Tandy and Anne Baxter in 1974. And we saw a revival of his musical CAVALCADE in London in 1995.
You must like Noel Coward as much as I do, Jeff! Some people find his acid wit and amoral approach to life repellent. But I find Coward one of the great comic writers ever.
from Patti in Nashville. I hope my library buys it.
You must be on Spring Break, Patti. My public library bought THE NOEL COWARD COLLECTION. They’re very good at responding to patron requests for books, DVDs, and CDs.
And I consistently mention the L. A. Theater Works folks whenever I do my wrap-ups on latter-day radio drama…they usually clear their audio productions through Pacifica in LA and other public stations around the country…
L. A. Theater Works put together a great package with this NOEL COWARD COLLECTION, Todd. I’m very impressed.
