Art and Marion Fowler travel to Niagara Falls for one last weekend before they divorce. Art has lost his job, their house is about to be fore-closed, and bankruptcy looms. But Art and Marion decide to take the last of their money and spend it on a second honeymoon in Canada. Can this desperate vacation save their marriage? Stewart O’Nan cannily gives the odds of events at the beginning of each chapter. If you’ve read O’Nan’s previous work, you know he’s a clever writer. And The Odds is one of his cleverest books. GRADE: B+
Sounds intruging. I do like his books (his short LAST NIGHT AT THE LOBSTER is well worth reading) so will probably try this.
Stewart O’Nan’s characters stay at what is obviously the Fallview Casino, Jeff. You and Jackie are familiar with it. And, O’Nan gets the Niagara wine region right as well. Obviously, he paid the area a visit.
Not supposed to be out yet. Did you get an arc?
THE ODDS will be published next month, Patti. I was lucky enough to read an ARC. When you read THE ODDS, you’ll recognize plenty of Niagara sites.
