I have no inside knowledge about who will win the OSCARS tonight. In fact, Diane and I probably won’t watch the long and tedious award ceremony. No host, tedious presenters, and way too many rambling speeches make other TV programming more appealing. I liked Black Panther but superhero movies don’t win OSCARS. I liked Emma Stone’s performance in The Favorite but she’s not going to win. I wish both Mahershala Ali and Viggo Mortensen would win OSCARS for Green Book, but that’s not going to happen, either. So here are my predictions. Who do you think will win tonight?
BEST MOVIE: Green Book
BUST DIRECTOR: Alfonso Cuarón, Roma
BEST ACTOR: Rami Malek, Bohemian Rhapsody
BEST ACTRESS: Glenn Close, The Wife
BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR: Mahershala Ali, Green Book
BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS: Regina King, If Beale Street Could Talk
I think those who watch other programming will win. I’ve never been impressed by the Oscars..In fact, I’ve been noting how “31 Days of Oscar” as disapproved the TCM schedule.
Todd, the OSCARS seem to possess a political/social agenda at times. Quality isn’t always the top criteria.
They always have a What Made Money For Me and My Friends agenda. Quality is only incidental, always.
Todd, the OSCAR presentation is essentially a marketing ploy.
Hence its lack of usefulness as anything else. Much like the Emmys and certainly the Grammies. Good set of guesses, btw.
Todd, I missed on Olivia Colman because I figured at long last, Glenn Close would win her OSCAR. But, it was not to be…
Grr…type-ahead and “auto-correct”…and not being able to delete typo’d messages.

I agree with your predictions except I think Viggo Mortenson will win not Malek. I just hope the overrated A Star Is Born doesn’t win anything.
Steve, I would love to see Viggo win, but the “fix” seems to be in for Malek.
Despite the fact that I love movies and have seen most of the major nominees (but not yet “Green Book”), I just can’t get excited about the Oscars or awards shows in general. So my winner for tonight is going to be the season finale of “True Detective”. I could record it and watch it tomorrow, but I just can’t wait.
Michael, we’re going to watch VICTORIA on PBS and I’ll watch an episode or two of THE UMBRELLA ACADEMY on Netflix.
ROMA, I hope.
We won’t be watching.
Jeff, ROMA should win best foreign film, but maybe it will take BEST PICTURE.
I have $50 on the Dallas Cowboys.
Dan, I hope to see the Dallas Cowboys while we’re in Dallas for BOUCHERCON in October.
I think ROMA will win as for some reason GREEN BOOK has been controversial. The rest I think you have right.
Patti, you may be right about ROMA. But, the ACADEMY is full of older voters who might prefer a more traditional movie like GREEN BOOK.
We’ve been watching movies on Amazon Prime and Netflix, and plan to watch one tonight (along with the latest episode of VICTORIA, like George).
What is the over/under on chances the show runs under three hours as promised? Because I am betting bigly (as Trump would say) on the over.
Jeff, I’m with you on “the over” for the OSCAR presentations. Too much wasted time, even without a host.
A book in one hand, a (Girl Scout) cookie in the other. Who needs TV?
As usual, I have seen none of the films, and that’s fine with me.
Rick, I’m sure you would enjoy BLACK PANTHER.
Barbara will watch the red carpet and the show for the dresses, not caring much about who wins what.
I don’t give a flying rat’s ass about any of this!
