Sounds like something I need to get. Was a fan of the original broadcasts(don’t think I’ve seen most since then). I have the three original novels and the reissue of Tom Disch’s first in the series as well. Another novel was published by Powys Media. I have that one. A second apparently had a press run of one hundred copies. Won’t ever see that one I suspect.
Powys Media’s original plan was six novels, one by the late Robert Sheckley. It’s been years and I wonder if we will ever see anymore. There was a second title announced then disappeared, before the eventual second novel.
Randy, we may see some of those THE PRISONER books show up as ebooks. If you’re a fan of THE PRISONER (and it sounds like you are!) this box-set has so many goodies you’re going to be in Nirvana!
I remember what surprised me when I watched the final episode recently (about 40 years after I’d last seen it) was the use of the Beatles’ “All You Need Is Love.” How did the rights for that ever get negotiated?
Deb, I think The Beatles were fans of THE PRISONER and offered the use of “All You Need Is Love.”
I don’t think I watched all of these episodes. Maybe I was away at college and missed them. Not sure.
Patti, it’s well worth watching the entire THE PRISONER series in Blu-ray. The series holds up surprisingly well.
Disch’s novelization is available on Kindle if you’re willing to spend $12.99 for it.
I liked the show but frankly I am much more interested in SECRET AGENT (aka DANGER MAN), which is available on 18 discs which include the first series seen only in the UK, for $48.
Jeff, it probably won’t surprise you to learn that I own that DANGERMAN 18-DVD box set.
This wasn’t one I watched. Maybe I was too busy watching Route 66. They were on at about the same time period, yes? Anyway, this wasn’t a show that ever seemed appealing to me. Man on the Run plots make me uncomfortable, for some reason. This sounds good to me only for the soundtrack music, but I wouldn’t buy the set for that.
Rick, THE PRISONER had more going on that just a former spy trying to escape from The Village. There are some nifty science ficiton elements to the plot and plenty of suspense and mystery. No doubt your local public library has this box set or will acquire it if you put in a request.
Had the DVD set but bought this one when it came out. I am a big Prisoner fan – and a big Blu-ray fan. This set also takes up about 1/8th the shelf space! I also bought the Danger Man collection on DVD when it was on sale for something insane like $20
Stan, I picked up DANGER MAN for that insanely cheap price, too!
Whaaaaa! Let’s all go insane!
Oh, wait, it was about a cheap price. Still, ya know, man?
Forgive me, but it was 73 here today and we got to sit on the patio in the warm sun and read. Whaaaaaa! Oh, did I mention lemonade? Ya hoo!
