This sequel to The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel adds Richard Gere to the mix. A group of British retirees reside in a run-down hotel in India to make their meager retirement savings last longer. There’s crusty Maggie Smith, confused Judi Dench, love-sick Bill Nighy, and Dev Patel who “operates” the hotel. My main quibble with this movie is the multiplicity of plots. There’s a wedding, a series of romantic involvements, and a panoramic tour of glorious India. Yes, it’s a geezer-fest, but I enjoyed it. GRADE: B+
As a geezer, I like geezer fests.
Bill, you would enjoy THE SECOND BEST EXOTIC MARIGOLD HOTEL. And so would most of the folks who follow this blog.
Was Gere there as more than eye candy?
Patti, your guess is right on the money. Gere was eye candy, but he could have been a whole lot more if director John Madden had given him something to do.
This has been at the top of Jackie’s list for some time. We’ll see it later this week.
Jeff, you and Jackie will enjoy THE SECOND BEST EXOTIC MARIGOLD HOTEL. A lot of critics like it better than the first movie.
I’m not much for rom-coms, so though this may be amusing I’m pretty sure I won’t be seeing it.
Rick, if you do decide to see THE SECOND BEST EXOTIC MARIGOLD HOTEL you really don’t need to see the first movie in the series to get up to speed.
No interest, and I don’t like Judy Dench.
Bob, Judi Dench’s role in this sequel isn’t as large as her role in the original movie.
My parents loved the first one so i think this will be a shoo-in with them 🙂
Sergio, if your parents enjoyed the first movie, they’ll love the sequel.
Gee, Bob, you didn’t even like her in the Bond films?
Nope, don’t like her at all. For me, I can see she’s acting. She might as well have a neon sign above her saying LOOK AT ME, I’M ACTING.
Glad to see you enjoyed it, George.
I’ll probably be seeing this one next week.
Beth, you’ll like THE SECOND BEST EXOTIC MARIGOLD HOTEL. You might even like it better than the first movie.
