I don’t know how I missed this movie, because I’ve seen Transporter 1 and Transporter 2 and enjoyed them very much. Our new Time-Warner HDTV deal brings us SHOWTIME free for a year so I took advantage when I saw Transporter 3 on one night. Jason Statham plays Frank Martin, a professional driver who “transports” whatever he’s paid to deliver. In this case, Statham finds things complicated because his client puts an explosive bracelet on his wrist. If Statham moves farther than 45 feet from his car, the bracelet will blow him up. Natalya Rudakova is the red-head eye candy who also has an explosive bracelet. There’s plenty of action, amazing driving, and a satisfying special effects extravaganza on a train. Action movies don’t get much better than this! GRADE: A-
Ilike Statham, but his whole acting repertoire seems to consist of the stink-eye. He’s good at it, but it’s beginning to pall.
You’re right about Statham’s lack of range, Dan. But he’s very good at what he does. Statham is in terrific shape in this film and he needs to be. There’s a chase scene that completely exhausted me while just watching it!
I guess I should watch TRANSPORTER 1 and 2 first.
TRANSPORTER 2 features Bill Crider’s favorite nurse in the whole wide world, Jeff. She’s really something!
George, I’d be willing to bet that action movies do in fact, get much better than this one.
But I do like Jason Statham. He’s balding, kind of short, and his characters always have an expression of annoyance and resignation, like they can’t believe all the crap they have to put up with. As he ages, don’t be surprised if he develops a cult following.
The train scene near the end of TRANSPORTER 3 is eye-popping, Drongo. I’d be hard pressed to name a scene that tops it. If there’s a Statham cult, I want to be a follower!
Statham makes fun, no nonsense action packed films. Not sure if I like these or the Crank films better.
I’m not up to date on the CRANK films, either, David. So many films, so little time…
