TURBOTAX 2022 DELUXE

I usually do my Federal and State taxes over the Presidents’ Day weekend, but this year the IRA asked that taxpayers delay sending their taxes in for a couple of weeks. So I waited until yesterday and finally installed TURBOTAX 2022 DELUXE on my computer and began the tedious process of data entry. The whole process took about an hour and at the end I owed a bit of money to the Feds and a bit more to New York State.

Do you have your taxes done? Do you do it yourself or do you farm the tax preparation out?

I do my own taxes. I use FreettaxeUSA. Federal is free. State is 14.99. My taxes are simple. I pay no taxes on my SSI. Just some on my Annuity which I get all back.

Steve, that sounds ideal! The price of TURBOTAX keeps going up so I may turn to alternative software. Our returns are fairly simple, too: just pensions and Social Security.

We did ours last week. We’re getting refunds from both Federal & State—but that’s because we had to remit estimated tax payments quarterly last year (John was working a long-term contract, and no taxes were being withheld), and we overestimated what we owed. I like to break even or just owe/get back a small amount. This year it’s a larger refund than usual, which I don’t like, but it’s better that owing money.

Deb, congratulations! We, too, like to breakeven, but with the COLA on our pensions going up and Social Security giving us an 8% increase we’ll have to readjust our withholding for the Feds and State for next year.

I usually do it myself. With just social security and a miniscule pension, I never owe anything. This year will be a bit more complicated with Kitty’s death, so I’ll farm it out.

Jerry, one of my colleagues at the College used to do taxes for other people all year long. He made more money–twice as much!–doing taxes than he did teaching.

I used Turbo Tax for years, then just got tired of dealing with it. Now I turn it over to H & R Block. It’s pricey, but my laziness has overcome my thriftiness.

Michael, some years I’m tempted to turn over the tax preparation to someone else. I’m not keen on data input. Maybe next year…

I hope to get my taxes to the CPA this week.
My sister K. used to do them but, once we got grown-up stuff (house, cars, investments, etc.), we’ve been going to professionals.

Beth, I’m getting to the point where I don’t want to be bother by dealing with tax info. Perhaps I’ll farm out our taxes next year to a CPA I know.

I do my own, which is why they’re screwed up every year! At least they’re screwed up since I had to report my Socialist Insecurity and their instructions on it are incomprehensible to me! I’ll have to pay this year because of the $6,000 of reportable winnings at the casino! I usually wait until April 14 to do taxes!
