George Clooney will probably be nominated for an Oscar for his role as a man addicted to travel. Clooney plays a corporate “hit-man” brought in by firms to fire their staffs. Through his job, Clooney spends 300+ days traveling. And gaining frequent flyer miles. Clooney meets up with a female frequent flyer played by the lovely Vera Farmiga (pictured above) and sparks fly. The on-screen chemistry of Clooney and Farmiga is electric! Director Jason Reitman makes one mis-step, but it doesn’t ruin the movie. Up In the Air manages to combine dark comedy and a critique of lifestyle choices in one entertaining package. GRADE: A-
Now I want to know what you thought his misstep was. Email me. I loved the movie on the whole but thought Clooney was miscast. He was just too darn glamorous and smart for 1)living in the apartment he did-even if he was only there 40 days a year 2) having the family he had 3) being content with such a dull job. I kept expecting to find out he was really 007 and undercover.
When they awarded Clooney that Number 7 card, I was imagining it was 007, Patti. Clooney could play Bond, but an Americanized version.
This is the top of our “to see” list.
My mother said she really hated the younger woman – not jsut the character but the actress.
But then, we rarely agree on anything in the movies.
Anna Kendrick as “Natalie” was supposed to be annoying, Jeff. I thought she delivered a boffo performance!
Well, now we saw it and, generally, I agree with you. Good movie.
But am I the only one who thinks they used a stunt body for Farmiga’s nude scene?
Mmmmm, looks like I’ll have to see it again and investigate these body double charges, Jeff.
I thought the two of them had terrific chemistry and Anna Kendrick did a very good job in what could have been an awfully thankless role.
It was a little weird seeing Sam Elliott as the pilot with that mustache.
I think they were trying to use Sam Elliot because he resembles Chesley Burnett “Sully” Sullenberger, the most famous current pilot, Jeff.
