VALENTINE MUSICAL SELECTIONS

To get you in the mood for Valentine’s Day here’s Valentine Musical Selections from 1997. These 16 songs are not the usual mix of love songs. Yes, there’s Curtis Mayfield’s “Oh So Beautiful” but I’m guessing most of you are not familiar with Holly Palmer’s “Come Lie With Me” or Nu Flavor’s “Heaven.

For Smooth Jazz fans there’s “Seduction” by Boney James and Hiroshima’s “Love How You Love Me.” If that music doesn’t get you the the mood for amour, nothing will. Do you have any plans for Valentine’s Day? GRADE: B+

It’s always Sade’s Greatest Hits for the win!

/We just got back from our anniversary trip, so Valentine’s Day is going to consist of chicken wings and watching the next installment of “Perry Mason” (we’re working our way through the entire series). 😂

Todd, I’ve yet to find a laptop keyboard I’m happy with. Most of the time, I use the Microsoft Ergonomic Keyboard which helps with my carpel tunnel problems.

Most of these songs don’t do much for me, and many I just cannot remember. Offhand, the most romantic songs I can think of are Tom Paxton’s “My Lady Is a Wild Flying Dove” and Dooley Wilson’s “As Time Goes By.” I’m an old fart.

Drawing a blank on all of these. Except for Quincy Jones, Chaka Khan, Curtis Mayfield, and Donovan, I don’t even know the performers. Speaking of Donovan . . . what’s he doing there??

Perhaps bouncy enough in latter day subdued fashion to mildly fit in with Quiet Storm…or a recognizable “name’ with an inexpensive catalog. Of course, the latter more likely to come into play.

I know exactly none of the songs, so Not The Target Audience.

We’re driving down to Boca Raton tomorrow to eat at Jackie’s all-time favorite Japanese buffet, Ichiyami. Yum.

Jackie is always looking for a Japanese buffet, as we don’t have them in Brooklyn. We have one – Crazy Buffet – that we used to go to, but it is nothing special. Two others, one of them really good, have closed in recent years. There is one other, but… meh, nothing special.

This one is worth the 45 minute drive.

Jeff, the Pandemic closed a number of Chinese and Japanese restaurants in our area. But the best ones in Canada managed to survive.

I do feel a bit guilty, among all my carnivore tendencies of my first couple/few decades, perhaps most for eating octopus occasionally in Hawaii. Very intelligent creatures. Though cows, certainly pigs, and the others have their moments. (Went lacto-ovo when I was about 25, I suspect, and my first full-bore Valentine, Donna, helped nudge me over that line.)

I hate these bogus celebratory days foisted on us by the card and candy racketeers! As for Chinese restaurants, they are an endangered species in Tacoma! Offhand, I can think of one! The casino has some decent Chinese dishes, but not the atmosphere!

Bob, the Pandemic killed off 30% of the restaurants in Western NY. The survivors were mainly Take-Out places that specialized in pizza, wings, and subs.

I recognize most of the artists, but I’ve never been the biggest fan of pop-jazz (while jazz-pop, such as the Police and Sting’s solo work, Ms. Adu, certain recordings by Whitney Houston and all, and certainly such earlier folks as the Zombies and some of the Byrds’ recordings thus are definitely favorites), I’m not too big on these.

Todd, there aren’t many Valentine’s Day music CDs to chose from. Next year, I’ll be featuring CDs full of love songs from many musical eras.
