Yes, my father was at a football game in the Polo Grounds (or Yankee Stadium) on December 7, 1941, and he said they kept making announcements for various service members to report to their bases. He got his mother to sign so he could enlist, as he was only 17 at the time.
Jeff, my Dad enlisted in the Navy and served on a destroyer–the U.S.S. Kidd–and was injured when a Japanese kamikaze plane hit his ship. My brother has my Dad’s Purple Heart.
Thanks!
Bob, thank you for your service.
Thank you to all who served, and—as always—a big shout out to my sister who served 25 years in the USAF.
Deb, your sister and the other veterans whose service protected our country deserve our thanks and respect.
We can honor them best by providing better housing, medical treatment, and jobs. We CANNOT honor them by calling them “losers” and “suckers.”
Jerry, I totally agree with you. No veteran should have to go to a food pantry. They deserve better care.
No one should have to. And yet vets will cackle over a certain jackanape winning an election.
Nobody did! No matter how often that lie is debunked there’s someone around to repeat it!

My father and no few of my cousins served. It was not for me, but I respect the desire to be of service, and the sacrifices too many have had to make.
Todd, I was in ROTC during the Vietnam War. But, like Jeff, I scored a 330 in the Draft Lottery and that was the end of that.
I beat the draft! I enlisted!
Bob, I signed up for ROTC.
