“A fruity, lightly spiced apple pie with a dollop of cream pairs nicely with this pear-inflected, softly sweet and vivaciously semi-sparkling Moscato d’Asti from the Piemontese producer Vietti. Produced from vineyards that are almost 40 years old, its low in alcohol (5%) but long on pleasure and very, very easy to drink.”
That’s the review in the Wall Street Journal that motivated me to buy a bottle of Vietti Moscato d’Asti. And, I totally agree with the reviewer! Vietti Moscato d’Asti is a softly sweet and vivaciously semi-sparkling white wine that’s simply delicious!
If you’re interested in other wine and dessert pairings, you can read the full review here. GRADE: A
I don’t care much for wine. I’ll drink it if it is put in front of me at a meal but that’s it. And isn’t that a bit too many carbs for a diabetic? Anyway, I’ would just as soon have a beer with a hot fudge sundae as this.
Steve, a 5 oz. glass of wine has about 3.8 grams of carbs. Not bad.
It’s not the wine it’s the desert that’s high in carbs.
Steve, you’re right about most desserts being high-carb. I tend to eat nuts and granola.
When I was diagnosed as a type2 diabetic, I was told to avoid alcohol…there seems to be some weasel-wording in the descriptions one finds in most online sources about drinking anything “hard”…but to help out the kidneys, I’ve been avoiding alcohol-drinking for the last three decades or so. At least on Type 1 has sternly informed me her doctors have assured her she has no reason to Not Drink.
To each their own poison!
Todd, my doctors advised me to drink a glass of red wine each day. I don’t drink the Hard Stuff.
Nor I. I just meant alcoholic drinks of any sort, as opposed to “soft drinks”…I have drunk a modest amount of near beer over the decades, Clausthaler and the like. Young package store clerks resent it when you ask for “near beer”. But, well, tough.
Insouciant yet unpretentious? A magnificent blending of pear and road apples for a fruity albeit cabbage-like experience, with just an undertone of kerosene? As you may tell, George, I don’t drink wine and I have no idea what I am talking about.
Jerry, I’m not a wine aficionado either, but I know what tastes good…and VIETTI MOSCATO D’ASTI 2020 tastes great for about $15 a bottle!
I did taste the Australian shirazes that started coming in a decade or so ago when I would buy them for Alice for about 8-10 bucks a bottle. Very pleasant. (I do mean taste.)
Todd, the closer wine is in taste to grape juice, the more I like it!
I will look for this because alcohol is not good for women with breast cancer so a 5% one would be preferable. Most non-alcoholic wines are so so sweet.
Patti, when I gave Diane a glass of VIETTI MOSCATO D’ASTI 2020 to sample, she took a sip and exclaimed, “This is very grapey!”
I like Jerry’s review.
Sounds a little fruity for my taste, but then, I’m no expert either. I bet Jackie (who rarely drinks) would like it better than I would, though she’d undoubtedly go for double the dessert instead of the wine, given the choice.
Jeff, I prefer fruity wines. The dry wines that taste like furniture polish don’t interest me.
this sounds good I’ve had very few wines that I’ve enjoyed, one being a malbec at the argentinian restaurant we went to in St. Louis (during Bouchercon there)
Also enjoyed a stella rosa one thanksgiving
Will check out where locally they have this. thanks
I did a search and just found a place in TN. I’ve contacted the winery for info.
Maggie, I think you’ll enjoy VIETTI MOSCATO D’ASTI 2020. Maybe we can share a bottle of VIETTI MOSCATO D’ASTI 2020 at BOUCHERCON!
sounds good
To heck with that swill! But I’d like to give you a chance to repeat its name a few more times! And that MOSCATO sounds to Russian for my tastes!
Bob, nope, Moscato is Italian. There would have be some z’s in a Russian word.
It’s a grimly amusing Thing that Z is the Roman letter that looks the most like a swastika.
Todd, the Z on Russian tanks is for Putin’s gratification.
My point exactly, George.
