This ninth book in the Saxon Tales series presents legendary warrior, Uhred of Bebbanburg, with the threat of invasion by a force from Ireland. Wessex, Mercia, and East Anglia are vulnerable. As in all the Saxon Tales, Uhred takes on a superior force. You’ll learn a lot about battlefield strategy and tactics from these books. You’ll also learn the war is Hell as the body counts mount and the injuries accumulate. The story arc of this series is trending toward Uhred reclaiming his rightful kingdom of Bebbanburg. That will be an epic battle! GRADE: B
Have never read him. I think historical fiction is not my cup of tea although I try it from time to time. As a history major I am always doubting the authenticity of what I’m told.
Patti, Bernard Cornwell does a lot of research before he writes his historical novels. I think Cornwell is the best of the historical adventure writers now practicing.
Not sure I’d try this. If I did, it would be on audio
Maggie, you’d have to be in the mood for a historical novel with lots of adventure.
Not really my cup if tea either. He’s written some contemporary stuff too, hasn’t he?
Jeff, Bernard Cornwell is an incredibly prolific writer with good quality control. In addition to his historical adventures, he’s written some contemporary suspense novels which I own but haven’t read yet.
