Here’s an interesting web site that will help you find books you might want to read. Let’s say you just finished reading a book and would like to read more books similar to it. Just enter the title of a book along with the author. Click on WHAT SHOULD I READ NEXT? and the web site will come up with 10 related titles. It’s a little kludgy so be prepared to try a couple of time before you get some results. I put in “Dying Earth” by “Jack Vance” and it came up with some interesting books. I would think this web site would be ideal for Book Clubs. To give the web site a test drive, just click here: WHAT SHOULD I READ NEXT?
This thing’s about as nonsensical as those internet language translators. I submit Hammett’s Red Harvest, and yes it gives back Chandler & Spillane titles (thought it thinks Colin Dexter wrote Farewell My Lovely), but also a book about Leibnitz & Spinoza, a Dylan Thomas title, two Wodehouse Blandings collections, and King Solomon’s Mines!
You’re right, Art. After the first couple recommendations, the list of books do get a bit silly. But, hey, the next generation might be a whole lot better.
Sounds like a good idea with a few knots to work out. Still fun to try.
You’re right about WHAT SHOULD I READ NEXT? having a few kinks that need working out, Patti. But I had fun with it, too.
I got this list when I put in QUEENPIN.
Easter Everywhere: A Memoir – Darcey Steinke See Amazon UK | US
Welcome to Twin Peaks: Access Guide to the Town – Sally (editor) Peters See Amazon UK | US
The Autobiography of F.B.I. Special Agent Dale Cooper: My Life, My Tapes – Mark Frost See Amazon UK | US

Quirky enough to be fun.
The lists seem to get very quirky after about the first six or seven titles, Patti.
yeah, the Twin Peaks stuff especially.
Art Scott’s search resulted in some wacky suggestions, too, Patti. SHE doesn’t really fit.
All I get is either a “Server Error” or a “Proxy Error”. Pretty darn helpful. I was trying to put in the Parry Mason novel I just finished.
Tried two other browsers, same story. Hey, George, what are you trying to pull on us, anyway? Just kidding!
I put in THE CASE OF THE DEADLY TOY, Rick. Here’s the list the web site generated:
The Mystery of 31 New Inn – R. Austin Freeman See Amazon UK | US
Death Among the Stars – Kenneth Giles See Amazon UK | US
Fatal Venture – Freeman Wills Crofts See Amazon UK | US
Too Many Cooks – Rex Stout See Amazon UK | US

Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy – John Le Carre See Amazon UK | US
Gorky Park – Martin Cruz Smith See Amazon UK | US
Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? – P.K. Dick See Amazon UK | US
Okay, I just tried with a newer title in case it was flummoxed by my choice (The Case of the Singing Skirt by Erle Stanley Gardner), but same error message. Oh well, it was an interesting idea. I’ll check back with ya tomorrow, George.
Why don’t you try THE CASE OF THE DEADLY TOY, Rick. And see if you get the same results I did.
I get no results. After I tye in the title and author, it just gives me “505 Error”, “Proxy error” or “server error”.
Maybe you need a new computer, Rick.
No, Rick is right. I get the same thing every time, even with the latest Stuart Kaminsky book and Rick Riordan’s Percy Jackson series.
I haven’t been able to get a single result.
OK, I got a result. For THE CATCHER IN THE RYE the results were odd:
Demain – Hermann Hesse See Amazon UK | US
Th1rteen R3asons Why – Jay Asher See Amazon UK | US
Don’t Try This at Home: A Year in the Life of Dave Navarro – Dave Navarro, Neil Strauss See Amazon UK | US
The Otherside of Midnight – Sidney Sheldon See Amazon UK | US
THE STRANGE CASE OF DR. JEKYL & MR. HYDE See Amazon UK | US

Jennie Gerhardt – Theodore Dreiser See Amazon UK | US
Murder on the Nile – Agatha Christie See Amazon UK | US
Son of the Mob: Hollywood Hustle – Gordon Korman See Amazon UK | US
THE CATCHER IN THE RYE and MURDER ON THE NILE, that’s quite a reach, Jeff. This data base needs some tweaking.
Just noticed it said “Demain” rather than “Demian.”
Clearly, the data base has spelling issues, too, Jeff.
