Jeremy Renner pretty much carries Wind River playing a U. S. Fish and Wildlife tracker who agrees to work with Elizabeth Olsen, an FBI agent, investigating a death on the Wind River Indian Reservation in Wyoming. Elizabeth Olsen has the thankless role of a “city” FBI agent assigned to this case because she was closest geographically. Olsen’s character is a young, naive woman who is a fish out of water in the Wyoming wilderness.
Much of this movie consists of emotive dialogue between two characters. Then, all hell breaks loose. This pattern is repeated several times. Life on the Reservation is portrayed as hellish. The crime mixes brutality and courage. Women characters don’t fare well, but many of the male characters end up dead. GRADE: B-
I saw this last weekend. I liked it but didn’t love it. Renner is very good as is the main native American character. At least it was nice seeing a movie made for adults rather than another superhero movie. Plan to see Good Times this weekend. Now back to my The Tick marathon.
Steve, I liked Renner’s acting in WIND RIVER, too. Just finished watching THE DEFENDERS.
Too bad. I was hoping for better.
The Tick? No.
Jeff, I was hoping for something better from WIND RIVER, too. No TICKs for me!
The Tick is very entertaining. Done wholly tongue in cheek.
Steve, I watched THE TICK a few years ago. I’m assuming this is an updated version.
I like Renner, so I’ll see this one. But probably on cable.
Bill, I like Jeremy Renner, too. WIND RIVER will be on Netflix and cable in a few months. There were only a dozen people in the AMC theater where I saw it.
George this is an updated version of The Tick from Amazon. The one you saw stared Patrick Warburton.
Steve, I have AMAZON Prime TV so I’ll check out the new TICK. Thanks for the heads up!
I am surprised because the reviews were so good. Well, I have to see it anyway on Tuesday. Am seeing GOOD TIME today. Probably at the same theater as Steve.
Saw it at the Main in Royal Oak. 1:15 matinee. About 8 people in attendance. I was disappointment in it considering the good reviews its been getting.
Steve, you had the same reaction to WIND RIVER that I did. I was hoping for something more…and didn’t get it.
Patti, I’ll be eager to hear what you think of WIND RIVER.
I saw it at The Main at 4:15, Steve. About 25 people. I liked it moderately but grew tired of the dark palette and the music. Also I would have like more back story. How in the world did the brother get pinned with the first crime. Talk about incompetent to stand trial.
