Celebrating its 14th year, Wingfest–the national celebration of chicken wings–is featuring 30 chicken wing vendors, offering 120 flavors of chicken digits. Lloyd, the taco truck, will be selling chicken wing tacos. This year local craft beers like Resurgence, Big Ditch, Flying Bison and Community Beer Works will be pouring brews. Tons of chicken wings are consumed at this 2-day event. Hundreds of thousands of voracious chicken wing eaters descend on Buffalo from all over the world. If you’re in the region, be sure to check this out!
Doesn’t it bother your conscience to think of all the maimed chickens resulting from this barbaric practice, who will never fly again?
Dan, that’s the last thing on the minds of 100,000 carnivores who show up for WINGFEST today.
Jackie eats my wings along with hers when we have chicken.
Heresy I know, but I am not a wing lover.
Jeff, I took Art Scott to the legendary ANCHOR BAR where Buffalo Chicken Wings were invented. Art order the “Suicide Wings” that are insanely hot. Art polished them off with no problems.
Coincidentally, I’m making wings tonight (modified Alton Brown recipe, Frank’s+Megadeath sauce). Bon appetit!
Art, I’m fond of Frank’s MEGADEATH sauce, too!
I’ve never made wings, but if I did I’d use Aardvark Hot Sauce, a very hot local product, which I used on our home made pork burritos (start with slow-cooked pork shoulder) just last night. Are you going to Wingfest, George?
Rick, I tend to avoid crowds of 100,000 or more. And I can buy excellent chicken wings right here in my neighborhood.
My husband is the wing-Meister in our house: he marinates the wings in a yogurt/lemon/onion/hot sauce mixture, then allows them to drain dry for a while, then it’s either the grill or fryer, served with various sauces (I like Frank’s, if I’m getting it from a bottle, but hubby has made up his own on occasion) plus blue cheese or ranch dressing.
I make a mean buffalo chicken appetizer in the crockpot: all the flavors of chicken wings, none of the bones!
Deb, that crockpot appetizer sounds yummy! Just the thing for next week’s Saints vs. Cardinals season opener!
I made it just last week for a church potluck: shredded, cooked chicken, cream cheese, blue cheese crumbles, grated sharp cheddar, grated mozzarella, a bottle of your favorite hot sauce (as I said, I like Frank’s Original), and a bottle of ranch (I use Hidden Valley Original). You can adjust any or all the ingredients to your specifications. Mix everything together and then into the crockpot on low for about a hour and a half. Stir, sprinkle with some more cheese, put the crockpot on warm, and serve with crackers and celery sticks. Yum!
Deb, thanks for the recipe! We love crockpot creations so we will give this a try during one of the Buffalo Bills’ games!
Deb, I’d love that recipe!
Correction: the item is Secret Aardvark Habanero Hot Sauce.
Rick, next time I’m in Portland I’ll have to give the SECRET AARDVARK HABANERO HOT SAUCE a try.
Sadly I have inherited some Scottish appetite for bland food. Well, not bland but not hot. I have a friend who puts Tabasco sauce on everything but oatmeal.
Patti, we order Tabasco sauce by the gallon drum!
While I like a certain amount of spice in my food, I pay the price for eating it later that night.
Bob, usually I feel the effects of the Hot Stuff in the morning.
Next year you should check out the most awesome festival in Western New York, WNY VegFest (www.wnyVegFest.com). I am on the planning committee, and last year I worked with the Common Council to write a resolution declaring the day in which WNY VegFest takes place ‘Vegan Day’ in the City of Buffalo.
Lauren, sounds great! I’m eating more and more veggies (and less meat).
