X-Men: First Class is a prequel to the popular X-Men movie franchise. James McEvoy plays Professor X, Michael Fassbender plays Magneto. And Kevin Bacon plays the Bad Guy, Sebastian Shaw. We see how Magneto, as a young boy, is forced to use his mutant powers by the Nazis. And, we learn how Charles Xavier hopes to build a school for those with “special abilities.” I found January Jones as Emma Frost quite cool. If you’re a fan of Marvel super-heroes, you’ll really love this movie. Director Matthew Vaughn captures the spirit of the X-Men and the hostility of the non-mutant humans. GRADE: A
Interesting. On the first (TV) review I saw the critic was obviously smitted by January Jones’s looks (and she looks fantastic) and thought she was great. The newspaper review called her “a blank January Jones” (this was a woman reviewer, by the way), so…you make the call.
I thought she was extremely weak as Liam Neeson’s “wife” in UNKNOWN.
Overall, this seems to have received pretty good reviews.
I don’t know if January Jones is a good actor, but she’s got Star Power, Jeff. You can’t keep your eyes off of her in X-MEN: FIRST CLASS.
She was pretty bad in UNKNOWN. I will be glad to see her exhibit some life.
January Jones holds her emotions in reserve in this movie, Patti. I think it’s just her acting style. But she looks fabulous in X-MEN!
Jackie says January got her start in Michael Landon, Jr.’s Lifetime made-for-TV movies.
Jackie is always right about such things, Jeff. But I, like Patti, would like to see January Jone show more range of emotions…if she can.
Looks aren’t enough for me, I need a solid plot and good acting. I gather this “oh, look! Pretty!” film is not for me, though I did watch the first in the series (not entirely sober, as I recall) and it was okay.
X-MEN: FIRST CLASS follows the plot developed in the X-MEN Marvel comic books, Rick. The production values are high, the cast is talented, and the story is gripping. I think this prequel to the X-MEN movie series will be a hit.
I think Rick has the right idea. There are a lot of movies that one shouldn’t watch while sober.
I’m not sure a glass of Merlot would enhance X-MEN: FIRST CLASS, Drongo.
Didn’t John Wayne play a character named January Jones in a movie? I think it took place in the North African desert and co-starred Sophia Loren.
I think you’re referring to LEGEND OF THE LOST, Bob. John Wayne played a character called Joe January.
