14-CUP PROGRAMMABLE CUISNART COFFEE MAKER (Model DCC-3200)

My Braun coffee maker died last week after 10 years of reliable service. The reviews for today’s Braun coffee makers didn’t impress me so I turned to the October 2017 issue of Consumer Reports to see how they ranked the current crop of coffee makers. The Cuisnart 14-Cup Programmable Coffee Maker (Model DCC-3200) ranked Number One. We have a Cuisnart toaster that we love. So we checked prices at various stores and online. AMAZON had the Cuisnart DCC-3200 for $72. The list price was $100. But Diane had a Kohl’s coupon for $10 off a $50 (or more) purchase. Kohl’s also sent Diane a 20% coupon on one item. Then, when the Kohl’s cashier cashed us out, Diane received $10 of Kohl’s cash! We got the Cuisnart Coffee Maker for about $68.

I don’t need a machine to grind my coffee beans. I don’t need a lot of bells and whistles. I just want a reliable coffee maker. What kind of coffee maker do you have? Do you like it? GRADE: A (after one week of operation…so far so good!)

Like you, we had a Braun for many years. This time Jackie got a 10 cup Melitta that looks (to me) quite like yours, though it has a metal carafe. It makes good coffee. I don’t need to grind the beans either!

Way to stimulate the economy. Jackie will have to step up her game! She’s been buying stuff from Amazon and Costco and Walmart online.

Jeff, our GE stove is 20 years old, so is our GE fridge. Our Panasonic microwave is 15 years old and Diane’s Magtag washer is an astonishing 37 years old! Our appliances are due (or overdue!) to die so we’re preparing now by researching replacements.

Jeff, Diane loves her trusty Magtag washer. It doesn’t have a lot of bells & whistles, but it’s got rock-solid reliability!

I have never had a cup of coffee in my life. I just make tea usually in the microwave. It has to be flavored tea, though and just one cup with caffeine. Then its herbal or decaf, also flavored. I have an elec teapot but no counter space for it

I got a box of maple Ice wine tea in Knowlton, but haven’t used it yet. It’s a herbal tea

I can’t remember what brand we have, and it makes good coffee, but it’s only an 8 cup (by coffee-maker standards, their cups must be 4 oz.) so we often have to make more than one pot if we want seconds in our 12 oz. mugs, which I always do and Barbara often does. Next time we’ll get a 14 cup, even 16 cup.

Rick, we entertain our friends on a regular basis so a 14-cup coffee maker is perfect. Our MR. COFFEE make makes 12 cups of Decaf for our friends who prefer it. Between the two coffee makers, we rarely run out of coffee at our soirees.

We’ve always had “filter machines” (usually Melitta – named after the German woman who invented the paper filter …), good for about 10 cups – that’s enough for the two of us.
But we put in much more ground coffee than most of you Americans – when I went to the USA on business or holiday trips I always brought some Nescafe to “fortify” or enhance the local coffee, no matter which machine we used or hotel/ restaurant we went to …

And two years ago someone asked us if we could use an electric old Espresso machine (Krups, German company) which wasn’t working perfectly – I just cleaned it inside really good with strong vinegar and it worked again! So often in the afternoon, especially when we have guests, I make a few espressos, really nice …
