50 MUSIC CDS…FOR A PITTANCE!

I was returning a book to the North Tonawanda Library when I noticed a book cart near the Circulation Desk. It was loaded with boxes of music CDs. I asked the Circulation Librarian, “What’s up with the music CDs?” He answered, “A patron donated 500 music CDs to us. We have no shelf space so we’re selling them.”

I immediately stared rummaging through the boxes of CDs and ended up with 50. Guess how much those 50 music CDs cost me? I’ll give you a hint: the Library priced them at 10 CDs for a dollar. Yes, I bought 50 wonderful music CDs for $5.00! Bargain of the Year!

Check out a few of my choices below.

As much as I’m trying to cull my “physical media” (as all the cool kid say on Reddit), I probably would not have been able to resist the siren’s call of 10 CDs for a buck. Great score, George. Even if you only listen to a handful of what you picked up, you’ve gotten your money’s worth. But what’s the over/under on you returning to the library one day this week to do another dive? 😂

Deb, no second dive for me. What I passed on were the Country-Western, Big Band, Dixieland Jazz, and Opera CDs. Since Diane, Patrick, and Katie have no interest in my music CD collection, I’m in negotiations with the State of New York University at Buffalo’s Music Library to accept my collection as a donation…when I’m gone.

Jeff, I’ll be posting about many of the other 50 music CDs on Thursdays throughout the year. It will take time for my to listen to all 50 discs with all the other books and TV shows to review.

I was just thinking how thrilled Diane must have been when you left the house with a library book to return, and came home with 50 CDs!

Jeff, I smuggled the box of 50 CDs into the basement while Diane was talking to her sister on the phone…for two hours! Marathon phone calls are the norm with those two…

I’m jealous. I’ve been lucky with library CDs a few times, but they were 50c to $1 each. I keep looking for eagles best hits, because I’m going to wear mine out soon.

I have not played a single CD since I moved here four years ago and I didn’t bring that many. I just ask Alexa if I want to hear something. But I don’t do that very often. It really is sort of sad, isn’t it? Instead I listen to podcasts. I guess I am a word person more than a music one.

Patti, I try to listen to a CD every day, sometimes at home, sometimes while I’m driving around running errands. I always have music CDs (and books) in my Rogue SUV.

Like George, we listen to CDs at home. We listen almost exclusively to Sirius XM in the car, though we fo listen to a few CDs on the way to Florida.

Jeff, I listen to Sirius XM in the Rogue especially when we take trips to Ohio to visit Diane’s sister or to Boston to visit Katie.

It can be too easy to fall out of the habit, Patti. I’ve got some computer problems at the moment, so am using a very limited old backup, and it does tell me how much I depend on a relatively limited amount of devices to get through the day. Given how much music I still have in many forms (happily, no open-reel tapes any longer, I think, since the tape deck was gone some decades back), I should be revisiting. Though online in several means is far too easy.

Decent haul! I’ve not been engaging my local library enough. Though it’s tought to park, and the weather hasn’t been encouraging for the slightly long walk, round-trip.

Todd, I’m on a schedule where I visit the North Tonawanda Public Library and the City of Tonawanda Library once a week each. I visit the Amherst Library about once a month.
