Tonight, the updated Sherlock Holmes series begins its second season with A Scandal in Belgravia. Next week, it’s The Hounds of the Baskervilles, and Season 2 finishes up with The Reichenbach Fall. Some Sherlockians might object to bringing Sherlock into the 21st Century, but I find these programs great fun. PBS has been rebroadcasting Season One and Season One is available on DVD and Blu-ray. Benedict Cumberbatch, who plays the quirky Holmes, is also going to star in the next Star Trek movie.
I shall probably miss him in the ST things (at least as long as the talent-free Abrams is involved), but will not miss any more of the fine “reboot” of Holmes than I have to. Great fun, indeed, and in a way the modern-day Rathbone films didn’t bother to be.
Just when I thought the Sherlock Holmes genre was played out, we get this “reboot” on PBS and Robert Downey, Jr.’s action hero interpretations, Todd.
Got the DVR all set. Enjoyed Season 1 but wish it and Season 2 were each more than 3 episodes.
I feel the same way, Scott. I wish the SHERLOCK season had six or eight episodes instead of just three. But, I’ll enjoy what’s available.
I’ve not seen any of these, and don’t plan to, for the very reason you mention. By no means am I any sort of Sherlockian expert, I still like him in his proper time period. I’m not even much of those films with him in WWII.
You’re not alone, Randy. Sherlockian purists reject bringing Holmes into the 21st Century. But, I like this series with its quirky premise.
