The Last Kingdom is a series based on Bernard Cornwell’s Saxon Stories featuring the fierce warrior, Uhtred of Bebbanburg. Set in the 9th and 10the Centuries, the Saxon Stories show how England became a united country instead of a group of warring territories. Cornwell’s skill at describing battles translates well in the TV series as Uhtred pledges himself to King John. If you’re a fan of English history, this series will enlighten you. If you’re a fan of action, you’ll find plenty in these tales of war and political intrigue. BBC America runs The Last Kingdom at 10 P.M. Eastern DST. Check the schedule in your area.
I see Patrick hasn’t fixed the blog as yet. I still have to sign in each time.
One of the few channels we lost when we switched from TWC to Fios was BBA America, but to be honest this is not the kind of show we’d be likely to watch anyway. We have 11 days of shows we recorded while we were away to catch up on, including Homeland, The Leftovers, The Walking Dead, and a couple of PBS shows.
Jeff, Patrick is busy with MID-TERM grades but he says he’ll work on the sign-in problem “soon.” Diane and I watched CRAZY EX-GIRL FRIEND. Diane liked it more than I did. SUPERGIRL premiers next week. So far, I’m unimpressed with the new FALL shows.
I agree. We’re watching QUANTICO and BLINDSPOT so far. Jackie likes the silly THE GRINDER but even she, normally a medical show junkie, drew the line at CODE BLACK. She does want to try SUPERGIRL.
Jeff, Diane has DVRed BLINDSPOT but I have not interest.
Jackie liked the Australian Sullivan Stapleton in STRIKE BACK on Cinemax, which just ended. So far it’s not bad. They seem to film a lot of outdoor scenes in Brooklyn.
Jeff, I’m way behind on STRIKE BACK.
I figure I know all I need to know about British history from GAME OF THRONES.
Patti, THE LAST KINGDOM is GAME OF THRONES without the dragons.
I also have to sign in every time and, honestly, it’s getting to be a hassle so I may not be leaving as many comments in future. I know that sounds lazy, sorry, but it’s a pain in the neck.
I’m not a big fan of the Cornwall books, or at least this series, if he has more than one, so this would be a skip, and I’m not sure if we have that channel anyway. The historical mystery series I want to get back to is Edward Marsden’s Domesday Books. I think the only TV I watch other than occasional sports is Amazing Race, and I usually catch that on demand and watch a couple at a time. TV just doesn’t interest me much anymore.
Rick, I’ve mentioned the sign in problem to Patrick but he’s working on MID-TERM grades right now (I turn my MID-TERM GRADES next week). I don’t know if I’ve mentioned it to you but I picked up Ed Marsden’s DOMESDAY series at a Library Sale. I hope to start reading them in the weeks ahead. They look good!
Apparently I’m not even allowed to just type in initials or partial information to make a comment. BAH! I’ll wait for the repair.
I’m looking forward to this have it on the DVR. I also loved the grindr , which really surprised me. One of my favorite shows is Graham Norton, sadly on BBCA so not many people I recommend it to can watch it. I’m also still really enjoying face off. Love seeing the creativity of makeup and spec. effects artists
Maggie, Graham Norton has plenty of great guests. I’m surprised at the top-line talent he’s able to attract.
