Amazingly, after an 0-2 start the Buffalo Bills have managed to win three games in a row. Today’s opponent, the Niners, features controversial QB Colin Kaepernick. Genius Head Coach Chip Kelly (no relation) named Colin Kaepernick as his starting quarterback for this game. The joke making the rounds among Bills fans is that the Bills plan to play the National Anthem every time the Niners have a 3rd down so Colin Kaepernick has to take a knee! How will your favorite NFL team fare today?
[For our International readers: Colin Kaepernick initially sat while the National Anthem was played. He took some heat for that. So then Colin Kaepernick started to go down on one knee while the National Anthem was played. Kaepernick is protesting the treatment of African-Americans with this action. Last week, Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg called Kaepernick’s taking a knee during the playing of the National Anthem “dumb and disrespectful.”]
Greetings from Baton Rouge where John and I have been joining the twins for the LSU Family Weekend and where we watched the LSU Tigers put a 45-10 beatdown on Southern Miss last night. Between our visit here and keeping up with the baseball playoffs, along with the fact that the Saints had a bye last week, I hadn’t even checked the New Orleans schedule, but I see they’re playing the Panthers in the Superdome today. Both teams have dismal records (Saints are 1-3, Panthers are 1-4), so I’m expecting a high-scoring game with not much defense and a lead that see-saws back and forth. I wouldn’t be surprised if the game comes down to the final possession, but only time with tell.
Deb, glad you’re having a great time in Baton Rouge! Those Panthers vs. Saints games tend to turn into high scoring affairs!
I like the National Anthem idea. The Bills are definitely on a roll.
The Giants, on the other hand, are going the other way. They’ve never played well against the Ravens, so who knows which Giants will show up today? Odell Beckham needs to shut up and get his head in the game.
Jeff, Odell Beckham might be the best wide receiver in the NFL, but he’s easily distracted.
I like the Anthem idea as well. The only time I minded him taking the knee or sitting was when they played in San Diego and it was military appreciation day. This is a big military town, and while he has the right to do that, I felt it was a slap in the face to veterans on a day when they are being honored. He’s put some money out to back up his feelings, so it’s not just a publicity stunt like it was suggested at the beginning.
Hope the Packers do well.
Maggie, I have no problem with Colin Kaepernick protesting. But I disagree with the way he chose to protest.
Deb, hope the girls are doing well. Our one and only trip to Baton Rouge came after Jazzfest in 2009. A friend was dying to go to Mike Anderson’s, which had closed on Bourbon Street after Katrina, so got us to drive with her to the original branch in Baton Rouge.
Jeff, you should have checked out the LSU stadium in Baton Rouge. It holds over 100,000 fans!
It was pretty crowded last night–what with Family Weekend plus a lot of Southern Miss fans drove in from our neighboring state. And, of course, tailgating is like a religion here–the whole place smelled like a barbeque pit! We went from tailgate party to tailgate party: brisket, pulled pork, chicken, burgers, brats, you name it. Man, do I need a salad!
Deb, tailgating at Bills games mirrors your experience! Only there’s a lot more Buffalo chicken wings!
We’ll see. The Seahawks play the Falcons, and Atlanta is pretty good this year. The paper touts this as best offense vs. best defense. I think it depends on how healthy Seattle is.
Oh, and the power just came back on in time to make the above comment. We were without power from just after Noon yesterday.
Rick, I was wondering if you were having storm-related problems. No power really sucks!
Rick, I hope we get the Seahawks vs. Falcons game. As you say, the best defense takes on the best offense. Who will win?
Break up the Bills!
Jeff, the Bills haven’t won four games in a row since 2008!
Well, Eli and Beckham overcame the Ravens – and a terrible pass interference call – to pull out an exciting win.
Jeff, I’m surprised the Washington Redskins are doing so well!
The hated Falcons just tied the Seahawks so I shut it off and came up to play on the computer. Mostly I’m happy with today’s scores. First the hated Broncos lost on Thursday, and now the hated Stealers, the hated 49ers, and the hated–whoops, I ran out of hated teams. But the beloved Bills and Giants won so if the Seahawks can win it’ll be a nearly perfect weekend.
Bob, the Bills won big! And the Seahawks won a squeaker!
Bob turned it off too soon. The Falcons went ahead, the Seahawks came back but missed the extra point, then intercepted a tip ball and kicked a died goal to win it. That’s the first football game I’ve watched this season, thigh I only saw the 2nd half.
Bills looking’ good, George. When do they play the Pats?
Rick, the Bills play the Patriots (with Brady) two weeks from today. Congratulations on the Seahawk win!
Not to brag but it was because I didn’t watch that the Seahawks won.
Bob, the Seahawks should give you a Game Ball!
