David Thomson’s The Moment of Psycho: How Alfred Hitchcock Taught America to Love Murder explores the impact of Hitchcock’s masterpiece on other movies. The first half of this slim book retells in detail how Hitchcock made Psycho. Nuggets like how author Robert Bloch sold the book rights for a mere $9,000 and how Janet Leigh was had for $25,000. Thomson shows how Hitchcock played the censors to get Psycho released uncut. The second half of the book deals with Psycho’s impact on subsequent films. The Moment of Psycho is a quick read, but there’s plenty here to think about. GRADE: B+
Sounds interesting, I’ll have to see if the library has it.
I made an adjustment to today’s posting on my blog after your comment. Thanks.
I woke up this morning and realized I have to get working on my ‘zine for the apa!!!! All this blogging and the holidays and I’ve gotten terribly far behind. Yikes.
Bill Crider and I came to that same realization this weekend, Rick. We’ve both been working on MAILING COMMENTS. THE MOMENT OF PSYCHO is a quick read, Rick, but full of interesting facts about movies. I like David Thomson’s work.
Way too early to start.
😉
I need to get it done because we’re going to New Orleans for 3 days next week. We’ll meet Beth & her friend Wilba there.
Anything to get out of this weather would be good.
Diane and I shoveled a foot of snow in our driveway, Jeff. Big Red, our snow blower, wouldn’t start because of the arctic temperatures here. Patrick was in New Orleans for New Year’s.
Huh? It’s 71 outside, clear and sunny. I don’t get what you guys are talking about. George, what is this “snow” you speak of” Like a layer of leaves, I guess, right? No, wait, it’s that white stuff I see in the Christmas movies, isn’t it? Looks pretty.
Wife will be home in an hour or o, and we’ll take our afternoon walk, then I’ll grill some chicken.
If you ever come to visit us in the winter, Rick, I’ll introduce you to a snowball.
Heh, heh, heh, heh, heh.
“And it ain’t a fit night out for ma-a-an nor beast!”
You’re got that right, Dan!
