I’m a big fan of Robin Williams’s 1995 movie Jumanji based on the Chris Van Allsburg children’s book of the same name. This new adventure movie, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle is not a reboot or retelling of the original story. This version updates the concept and features Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black, and Karen Gillian. As you can see from the cast, humor is a High Priority. There’s plenty of action, too. Based on a video game model, our characters have a quest to tackle and “levels” to beat. I loved it! If you’re looking for fun, laughs, and action you’ll find all three in Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle. GRADE: A-
Wow. A-. Have seen this on many worst of the year lists.
Steve, I was just in the mood for silly fun and JUMANJU provided it.
1. I didn’t think much of the original version.
2. NO interest in video games into movies (TRON, etc.), so zero interest in this, despite the cast.
3. I’m waiting for The Rock’s RAMPAGE, as well as the promised sequel to SAN ANDREAS.
Jeff, we saw the trailer to RAMAGE before JUMANJI started. Action, action, action!
You are the most open, generous guy I know,
Patti, I’m also a 12-year-old kid in a 68-year-old body!
It sounds like fun to me, but I just saw my first movie in a theater this year, so doubt I’ll make it to a theater to see it.
I saw Greatest Showman and loved it. The opening song reminded me of the music from Hamilton. Prior to the movie starting, there was a clip of Hugh Jackman and the director thanking the audience for seeing it in a theater, the way it was meant to be seen. It was spectacular.
Maggie, THE GREATEST SHOWMAN has done better at the Box Office than predicted!
there were 6 in the theater when I went
So, since you gave this one an A, that means you want to see it again? I wouldn’t – don’t – want to see it even once.
Rick, you aren’t in the movie demographic JUMANJI: WELCOME TO THE JUNGLE is aimed at. SONY is raking in millions on JUMANJI. JUMANJI has taken in $782 million worldwide with only a $90 million budget.
For me the best aspect of this is where it was filmed:
Hawaii! 🙂
One of those places I would have liked to visit – any of the islands would do!
Have you been there?
Of course I’ve been to most of the Canary Islands several times, but Hawaii …
Wolf, most of my friends and family who have visited Hawaii have loved it!
Wolf, I”ve been to HI twice and enjoyed it very much. Both times I went were for the Left Coast Crime mystery convention. My mom had wanted to go there, and never did, and my dad always wanted to go to Ireland, and never did. If you can, I recommend it. Last year, the convention was in Honolulu, and my friend rented a car and we went all around the island in just hours.
I regret not visiting Egypt before the area became unsafe. I still have Australia and New Zealand on my list.
