Those programs on Tina and Aretha I would love to see but …
A bit OT:
We have no streaming services and don’t often watch TV here in Hungary or Germany. Especially the Hungarian stations are just propaganda outlets for the right wing government – we often joke: North Korean news again.
Not a series but a great movie we just saw on tv:
A movie made in Budapest many years ago:
Queen in concert, afaik their only concert in the Communist block!
Freddie Mercury at his best and the audience went crazy. The movie also includes scenes of the band on the Danube and visiting famous monuments.
I read somewhere that they ordered all available cameras (17 in all) from Hungary to film this happening.
Patti, it’s RESIDENT ALIEN. We liked it a lot too after George recommended it. The second series is finally coming January 22 o SyFy. Alan Tudyk plays an alien who was sent to wipe out the population of Earth, but crashes. He ends up taking over the body of a doctor in a small Colorado town and learning about humanity as he awkwardly “blends in” with the town. Only one young boy (at first) can see through his human appearance and see the alien underneath. It’s goofy fun, for the most part, with some eccentric characters in the town.
We watched most of those, George. I thought the Sandra Oh series THE CHAIR should have been better than it was, though we enjoyed it. The Tina Turner documentary was good too.
The only show on your list that I’ve seen is THE CHAIR, which I liked. And like Patti, I have no idea what the top show is, although it certainly doesn’t look like anything I’d watch. There were a number of good shows this year, with HBO and Netflix being the source of most of them. I really liked MARE OF EASTTOWN, THE WHITE LOTUS, HACKS, and THE SQUID GAME. MIDNIGHT MASS was probably Mike Flanagan’s best series yet for Netflix. The most pleasant surprise was Showtime’s reboot of DEXTER, which is much better than I was expecting. My favorite, though, is the Paramount Network’s YELLOWSTONE, currently the most popular show on cable, although I think it’s streaming on Peacock, which I don’t have.
Maybe this should be my new year’s resolution. We gave up cable when we moved two years ago, and seldom watch network series TV anymore — I’d be pressed to name six, period. I saw the first two episodes of MANDALORIAN before losing interest. Our older daughter is a big Ted Lasso fan, though.
Rick, our DVR is at 53% with all of Diane’s HALLMARK movies. Patrick and Katie fly out on Thursday so we’ll start to chip away at all the programs we’ve recorded.
We rarely watch anything “new,” except for the few reality shows we enjoy like THE GREAT BRITISH BAKING SHOW. We each pick a series and bounce back and forth between the two. Ann is currently on a LUCIFER kick, and we’ve finished the network episodes and are now into the Netflix ones. She had picked RESIDENT ALIEN earlier, so that’s the only one of your choices that we’ve seen. My current choice is MASTERPIECE, and we’re watching a random selection of series that we missed over the years, from the 1970s till now. THE MILL ON THE FLOSS, BRAMWELL, HETTY WAINTHROPP INVESTIGATES, INSPECTOR LEWIS, THE DURRELLS IN CORFU, US, GRANTCHESTER…a season of each. FAR FROM THE MADDING CROWD, 1998 version, will be next.
I too am a big fan of Resident Alien. Can’t wait for the new season.
A friend recently told me about Ghosts. The female lead is the star of iZombie. Only watched a few episodes but I’m liking it so far.
Beth, Diane and I watched a couple of episodes of GHOSTS (based on a British series) but our ever growing DVR is forcing us to watch other programs for the next few weeks.
Sometimes I get a bit envious – here in Europe there is almost no chance to watch these series on TV unless you pay a lot.
And for my wife of course a translation into Hungarian would be nice – but no chance.
So I just watch scenes on youtube – but there also is too much, just the concerts that are available …
Life’s too short or rather the days are too short!

Wolf, over the years, Queen’s popularity has increased. Freddie Mercury at this best…incredible!
Not surprisingly, I never saw any of them! I do have a couple of model kits from The Mandalorian, however! One, Razor Crest. I bought myself for Xmas!
Bob, The Madalorian is come back in 2022. It was a surprise hit show for Disney+.
I don’t know what that first show is, George. I should have included Ted Lasso in my list.
Patti, the first photo is from RESIDENT ALIEN where an alien being crashes on Earth and interacts with humans. Dark humor at its best!
The Year In Remorse!
Dan, you are so right! So many mediocre TV shows! And the Dallas Cowboys stomped the poor Washington football team last night. Ouch!

Jeff, I haven’t heard if THE CHAIR is returning. It has promise, but you’re right: it should have been better than it was.
Some good choices, George, I guess. Haven’t seen any of them. **sigh**
Jerry, look what you have to look forward to! All of these TV programs will eventually be available online.

Michael, I haven’t had a chance to check out the reboot of DEXTER or YELLOWSTONE but they’re on my Watch List.
MARE OF EASTTOWN (HBO)
SQUID GAME (Netflix)
MONEY HEIST (Netflix)
SEASIDE HOTEL (PBS Masterpiece)
Jeff, all the shows on your list are on our Watch List for 2022.

Fred, I would rank TED LASSO as the best of this bunch.
We watched the first episode of All Creatures Great and Small and liked it, but then I messed up my DVD player somehow, can fix it and that was that.
Rick, our DVR is at 53% with all of Diane’s HALLMARK movies. Patrick and Katie fly out on Thursday so we’ll start to chip away at all the programs we’ve recorded.
CAN’T fix it…
Rick, I wish I could send Patrick to Portland to fix your DVR. Right now, Patrick is reprograming Diane’s new Fitbit.
No it’s the DVD player, that I’d play disks on, like from the library.
Rick, you can buy a new DVD/Blu-ray player for $50.
I watched/enjoyed most of these, especially Resident Alien and Ted Lasso! I would recommend Goliath on Prime.
Angela, thanks for the heads up on GOLIATH! I’ll check it out.
Jackie watched all four series of GOLIATH too.

Jeff, we record more PBS programs than any other network. It just takes time to get around to watching them.
I too am a big fan of Resident Alien. Can’t wait for the new season.

Ghosts is not for me, but Ann is really enjoying it.

Wolf, I know several people who are addicted to YOUTUBE.
