A BRIEF GUIDE TO JEEVES AND WOOSTER By Nigel Cawthorne

jeeves and wooster
If you’re a fan of P.G. Wodehouse’s wonderful Jeeves and Bertie, you’ll find Nigel Cawthorne’s slim little book a delight. Cawthorne provides outlines of the thirty-five short stories and eleven novels. From “Extricating Young Gussie” to Aunts Aren’t Gentlemen, this book is a celebration of the clever stories and unforgettable characters in the series. In addition, Cawthorne also discusses the many adaptations of the Jeeves and Bertie Saga for stage and movies and TV. Nigel Cawthorne has also written A Brief Guide to James Bond and A Brief History of Sherlock Holmes. I can recommend both volumes in addition to this one. GRADE: A

I love Wodehouse, but I prefer his other series (Blandings Castle, Uncle Fred…) and the one-shot novels. Jeeves always struck me as a bit too Pinter-esque for comfort.

Dan, Jeeves is the consummate problem-solver. And Bertie is the ultimate problem creator! I like the Blandings Castle stories, too.

I’m with you, Dan. I really enjoy the Blandings ones, love Lord Emsworth. Don’t really care for the mulliner or golf ones nearly as much, but do enjoy Jeeves & Bertie

He’s also done A BRIEF GUIDE TO AGATHA CHRISTIE and A BRIEF GUIDE TO J.R.R. TOLKIEN, according to my library’s website.

I used to shop at Daedalus Books, got their catalog. Haven’t seen one in years, but now that I’m not buying books I don’t need it.
