Adventure House’s reprint of Thrilling Detective from September 1935 includes Mark of Death by George A. McDonald, Murder Debt by George Harmon Coxe, My Companion Death by Arthur J. Burks, Murder That Waited by Norman A. Daniels, Banked Fires by C.K.M. Scanlon, Dead Man’s Bluff by Saunders M. Cummings, and Murder at Rat River by Gunnison Steele. I needed a pulp fiction fix. If you need one, too, this will do the trick.
Great skeleton cover!
THRILLING DETECTIVE specialized in skeleton covers, Jeff.
Gunnison Steele was Barry Gardner’s father, as you may recall.
You’re right, Bob. That’s what drew me to this volume of THRILLING DETECTIVE.
Names I’ve come across before, but aside from perhaps one story each by Burks and Coxe, never read. How’s the issue stack up?
Other than some dated references, the action was hot and the women were hotter, Todd.
Is this available for purchase? I just saw this and my grandfather (who I never knew) wrote one of these stories!
I’m sure you can find a copy for sale at ABE.COM or eBay, Scott.
