Most of the new Fall TV programs look lame. But tonight’s Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. promises to deliver the action fix that I used to get with Nikita for before it got dopey. Josh Whedon was involved in the first few episodes of this series so that bodes well. Whedon says: “There’s always the struggle between spectacle and a TV budget. What attracted me to ‘S.H.I.E.L.D.’ were the gadgets. But after the gadgets was humanity: The idea that there is an underside, a darker side, a more human context. Phil Coulson always represented the everyman, the schlemiel in the world of the fabulous or the mighty, gods and billionaires and legends. And that’s what the show is for, it’s for those people who, as remarkable as they may be, are not the supers, are not A-list.” Sounds like my kind of Guilty Pleasure. Check out the trailer below.
Am quite looking forward to this – and the UK screening is barely behind the US, which makes for a pleasant change

The U.S. network shows keep getting farther and farther behind the quality of the cable ones. This is only one of two new ones that holds any interest for me.
Patti, you are so right! The Network TV offerings look terrible.
I won’t be watching. I find Joss Whedon OK but very overrated and I was never a big Marvel fan.
Bring in IRON MAN or THOR and we’ll talk.

Somebody catch me up. Last I saw of SHIELD, it was run by Nick Fury (with an eyepatch) from a giant plane/blimp thingie hovering in the sky. Apparently there’ve been some changes since.
Art, Nick Fury (played by Samuel L. Jackson in THE AVENGERS) took some damage. The giant plane/blimp thingie got trashed in the same movie.
I’m waffling on this one. If I wanted to waste an hour, I might try it, maybe watch it on demand when the commercials have washed off (no I still don’t have a DVR). On the other hand, like Art, I’m old school when it comes to S.H.I.E.L.D. and have trouble with the reboot Marvel has done – same as I don’t like the reboot DC did with it’s “New 52”. On yet the third hand, Lola appears to be a 1962 Corvette – I had one once, a white one – so that could be interesting, if it’s featured much.
Maybe if the viewers who post here say it was terrific I’ll look in.
Rick, I’m with you on the DC reboot! Terrible idea. I’ll give MARVEL’S AGENTS OF SHIELD a try for a few weeks to see if I like it. There’s not much on Network TV worth watching as Patti pointed out.
Where da’ black guy? How can you have a group that large without a black guy? I think it’s illegal.
Bob, in the version of SHIELD presented by THE AVENGERS, Nick Fury is an African-American (Samuel L. Jackson).
Just watched this. Didn’t impress me. Thought it rather dull.
I know about Jackson. I’m talking about this group. I tried to watch it and gave up after ten minutes. Either I’m deaf or those people can’t ennunciate clearly and/or the dumb music drowned them out.
