Ahsoka [Disney+]

Disney+ dropped the first two episodes (of eight) last week. Ahsoka is an American television miniseries created and written by Dave Filoni for Disney+. It is part of the Star Wars franchise and a spin-off from the series The Mandalorian, taking place in the same timeframe as that series and its other interconnected spin-offs after the events of Return of the Jedi (1983), while also serving as a continuation to the animated series Star Wars Rebels. The series follows Ahsoka Tano (Rosario Dawson) as she investigates an emerging threat to the galaxy following the fall of the Empire.

Ahsoka trained with Anakin Skywalker before Anakin turned to the Dark Side. After evil Emperor Palpatine initiates Order 66 (commanding the execution of all Jedi) toward the Revenge of the Sith, Ahsoka flees to the Outer Rim and goes into hiding. Later, she joins the Rebel Alliance.

Elements of the defeated Empire hope to regenerate their cause by obtaining a star map to the location of Grand Admiral Thrawn and potentially reigning the Empire. Ahsoka and her Palawan (young Jedi in training) Natasha Liu Bordizzo as Sabine Wren move to stop the conspiracy.

I also like Mary Elizabeth Winstead as General Hera Syndulla who assists Ahsoka and Wren. If you’re a Star War fan, you’ll enjoy this series. Are you a Star Wars fan? GRADE: Incomplete but trending towards a B+

Patti, Disney just raised the price for Disney+. With the Writers/Actors Strike, these streaming services are going to have a hard time keeping their subscription base…with little new content.

I loved the original three movies, especially the second one. But it long ago degenerated into an ungodly morass of sequels and spin-offs and sequels to spin-offs that I had no desire to keep track of.

Ineffectively, in my case…as a 12yo at time of SW 1’s release. Remnants of Leigh Brackett’s scripting presumably contributed to EMPIRE SB be slightly better, and the only two later films I’ve seen, because Alice still was game for them, were the disastrous 4th an 5th films…she gave up after the 6th.

Michael, STAR WARS was a money-maker for Disney after they bought Lucasfilm. Disney will keep producing these limited series as along as the cash register keeps ringing!

I, too, have assiduously avoided th Star Wars franchise. I enjoyed the first film, tolerated the second, and threw my hands up at the ending of the third. The final crushing blow to me was the advent of Jar-Jar. i am shallow and proud of it.

I saw a couple of episodes of THE MANDALORIAN and a couple of BOBA FETT. Not impressed. I may give this one a try if I’m pressed for entertainment. For that matter, I’ve never been a big STAR WARS fan. By the time the first movie appeared in 1977, I was 27 and already well-versed in Burroughs, Brackett, Dune, Flash Gordon, and the other Space Opera relics that did what Lucas did, only better. I hope the female-heavy casting of AHSOKA doesn’t drive the right-wing hysteria machine into spewing out more “woke” nonsense.

So, not a SW fan, but am a Dawson and Winstead fan. If I find it for free, such as on ABC or FoxBC this coming year, I’ll take a look. (FX seems less likely.)
