Is the Future of Artificial Intelligence going to be like The Terminator or will we escape Doom and find ourselves in Paradise? Josh Tyyrangiel leans toward Paradise and delivers a number of actual Real World examples of what is being done with AI.
Rita Pappas of the Cleveland Clinic, the medical director of hospital operations, used AI to tackle the inefficient management of admissions, discharges and transfers. AI improved the way the Cleveland Clinic operates today.
But wait, there’s more!
Army general (now retired) and chief operating officer of Operation Warp Speed, Gustave Perna, used AI in a massive medical experiment. During the Covid-19 pandemic, Perna collected data from across the healthcare industry to build a real-time vaccine supply chain, racing to deliver the Covid-19 vaccine to save millions of lives. We all know how that turned out.
However, for each of Tyrangiel’s positive examples, I can think of a negative AI example. I think AI will cause massive unemployment as AI takes over lower level jobs–that’s happening today. There’s a Good Reason why College Graduates booed Graduation Speakers last month when they mentioned AI.
The road to The Terminator is paved with autonomous weapons systems–which the Pentagon is building Right Now. Weapons that can act (aka, kill) without human guidance is a slippy slope. While Josh Tyrangiel’s AI for Good is hopeful, I’m not convinced. What do you think of AI? GRADE: B+

Even when intentions are good doesn’t mean the results won’t be full of “slop” either intentionally introduced by users and/or programmers, or short-cuts and distorted results coming from how the models are designed to come to their conclusions.
Todd, AI is in our Future, but it needs guard-rails.
I thought Dear Leader told us we were supposed to be calling it “Super Intelligence” these days 🙄. Anyway, as far as I can tell, A.I. has two main goals: surveillance/monitoring and creating crappy CGI. Humans are more than capable of doing both of those things without help from any computer-based “intelligence”.
Dear Molester only wants obedience, and fantasizes he should get it in every instance, and universally. We need him to be much more regularly mocked to his face.
Todd, the Mid-term elections are just around the corner. Trump will NOT like the results.
Because Artificial Intelligence sounds “not real,” don’t you know. Yeah? Well, “artificial” is NOT real, genius.
Jeff, Artificial Intelligence has the potential to ruin civilization. And, Trump continues to promote it!
Deb, Trump’s “Super Intelligence” effort failed. AI is a powerful tool…but in the Wrong Hands it could be deadly.
I am frightened of AI, but I feel that it is the symptom and not the disease. The real danger lies in the unthinking, narcissistic, and greedy yahoos behind the scenes who program and fund AI. As with any “computer error,” the error is not on the part of the computer, but on the part of those who program it — a computer error is ALWAYS a human error. The problem is compounded by Uncle Cankles, who keeps promoting AI because 1) he and his family are profiting outrageously from it, and 2) because I am convinced that in some dark corner of his tiny little mind he conflates it with A-1 sauce.
Jerry, AI is like a gun. It depends on who is holding it…
Definitely on the “Terminator” side. Not interested in reading this. There are way, way too many AI stories as it is.
Jeff, Josh Tyrangiel provides several positive stories about AI helping doctors. But we all know AI has a lot of potential for Evil.
I want nothing to do with AI. I’ve been taking a bunch of online surveys for several years and maybe 10 percent have questions about AI, which I always answer negatively.
Maggie, you have good instincts!
AI will destroy the world as we know it!
Bob, I’ve read enough Science Fiction and seen THE TERMINATOR movies to recognize the danger of AI. I mailed QUICK DRAW and some goodies for you today.
