ALL SYSTEMS RED By Martha Wells

Martha Wells’s new TOR novel, All Systems Red: The Murderbot Diaries, features the narration of a “security” cyborg (aka, “murderbot”). The nameless cyborg was hired to protect a small group of scientists and researchers who are surveying a planet. From the beginning, things go wrong. Equipment fails. Disaster strikes. Confusion reigns. I was on the edge of my seat as the tension in All Systems Red built. Martha Wells, who has written the outstanding Raksura series, displays her plotting and characterization skills in this slim book. Hopefully, this is the start of a new series. GRADE: A-

Yet another author I’ve never read, though I’ve read several of Bill’s reviews of her books. This one sounds like I need to check it out.

By the way, we rewatched GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY last night as we’re going to see Volume 2 this afternoon.

Jeff, you’ll enjoy the suspense in ALL SYSTEMS RED (only 152 pages!). Let me predict right now that you and Jackie will decide you liked the first GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY more than the sequel.

I liked it. Perhaps not as much as the first one – the Ego scenes were kind of tedious – but it was fun.

Jackie liked it a lot. She found it more emotionally satisfying – the sisters, Yondu, Drax and Mantis, Baby Groot.
