Diane and I listened to Amy Grant’s music back in the 1980s and enjoyed it. Diane still plays an Amy Grant Christmas CD during the Holidays. This Amy Grant concert took place 5 minutes from our house at the historic Rivera Theatre (1,100 seats) in downtown North Tonawanda. The concert sold out with mostly an aging audience. As most of you probably know, Amy Grant also released some Contemporary Christian CDs. She sang some religious songs and many in the audience chimed in. Amy Grant sang the songs we like most from her CDs: “Lucky One,” “That’s What Love Is For,” “Baby Baby,” “Every Heartbeat,” and “I Will Remember You.” All in all, a pleasant concert in friendly surroundings. We drove home in 5 minutes after the concert ended. That doesn’t happen very often. Are you an Amy Grant fan? GRADE: A

Don’t really know much of her stuff, except “Baby, Baby.” I know she was one of the first Christian crossover acts and many people (on both sides of the divide) didn’t take kindly to that. Then—Heaven forfend!—she got divorced from her first husband and married Vince Gill (not sure if they’re still married) which I always found interesting because when he was the lead singer of Pure Prairie League they had a hit titled “Amy”—long before he met Amy Grant.
Deb, I think Amy Grant is still married to Vince Gill. She’s sold more than 30 million albums/CDs.
Ah, Pure Prairie League. I had that vinyl album with the great illustration on the cover.
Rick, I might have had a copy of that PURE PRAIRIE LEAGUE album, too. I’m not sure it ever made it to CD.
Know the name but not much of her music.
Patti, Diane loves Amy Grant’s Christmas CDs.
I have absolutely no interest in her at all. Not my taste in music.
Steve, you might be more interested in the next couple concerts I’ll be posting about in November and December.
I just saw Willie Nile at a small venue last Thursday. He puts on a great show. He is originally from Buffalo.
Steve, if Willie Nile performs around here, I’ll be sure to see him after your positive comments about him.
Like Deb and Patti, I don’t really know her music. I am a fan of Joni Mitchell’s “Big Yellow Taxi,” however.
Traveling five minutes to a concert can’t be beat! Only once, they had a doo wop concert at the local high school and we were able to walk there in five minutes. Otherwise, the best we’ve done was Barclays Center in Brooklyn. I drive to 36th Street and 4th Avenue (less than three miles) and we take the subway one stop. Then it is one stop back and a quick trip home. The best was the Jimmy Buffett New Year’s Eve concert several years ago, but we also did it for a Shania Twain concert.
We’ve had a very good concert year. We’ve seen 11 shows and still have 4 to go between tomorrow (Steely Dan) and early December.
Oh, as for Vince Gill, we’ve seen him in his new role as Glenn Frey’s replacement in the Eagles the last couple of times we’ve seen them. They’ve been married since 2000.
Jeff, I have a couple Vince Gill CDs. Not bad.
Jeff, we have tickets to a concert in November and December. I hope you’ll enjoy the posts when they show up on this blog.
No.
George – Willie Nile at Town Ballroom Dec 7th. He has a middle aged to older following. At 71 I didn’t feel out of place, but then he’s 71.
Steve, thanks for the heads up! I’ll check to see if I can buy some tickets!
I’ve heard the name but have no knowledge of or interest in her music!
