The second and final season of Andor continues the story of the resistance to the rise of the Empire. Cassian Andor is part of a rebel alliance that is attempted to slow the attempts of the Emperor to dominate the Galaxy.
I watched four of the 12 episodes (a new episode drops every Tuesday) and love the action scenes and put up with the gaudy party scenes that I could do without. The Imperial plot to take over a key planet for its energy reserves draws Andor to danger again. And, once again, Producer Tony Gilroy doesn’t shy away from killing off key characters. There’s a ruthlessness about the Andor series that stresses that fighting a dictatorship has steep costs.
My chief quibble is the scenes that take place in the shadows. I’m squinting at my screen to figure out what the heck is going on!
Despite this annoyance, Andor moves the Star Wars franchise through the events that lead to Rogue One (2016). If you’re a Star Wars fan, you’ll watching this. GRADE: Incomplete but treading towards a B
Not really a STAR WARS fan. I loved the first film. and threw my popcorn in disgust at the ending of the third film. I yawned my way through THE PHANTOM MENACE, and quit halfway through ATTACK OF THE CLOWNS — I mean , CLONES. Haven’t gone back. I did watch the STAR WARS CHRISTMAS SPECIAL way back when, though; the less said about that the better.
Also I never read any of the books. Kitty did read the one about the marriage of Han and Leia and thought it vacuous.
I have very fond memories of the original “Star Wars” but feel everything since has been steadily worse and, frankly, the fans killed it for me. “Star Trek” fans are insufferable but the obsessive 50-something “Star Wars” fans for whom the IP is the alpha and omega of all culture are as genuinely scary as hell. I have my vinyl and CD of the original film score and I’d buy the 1977 cut of “Star Wars” (no New Hope crap) if George Lucas ever regains his sanity and allows its release but otherwise I’m good.
This show has gotten exceptional praise and I hope you enjoy it but I’ll never watch it. I refuse to patronize Disney anymore, especially this franchise. As for the darkness you complain about, I’ve seen more than a few articles online about how this is “Star Wars” embracing the world of “Bladerunner.” Um…ok. I’ll stick with just “Bladerunner,” thank you.
Jackie got Disney + and Hulu for three months for $2.99 a month, but we found we weren’t watching enough on either, and were watching so many things on our other channels that we canceled it. We tried to watch THE MANDALORIAN, but Jackie was bored and I didn’t care.
