Anne Rice’s Talamasca: The Secret Order (AMC)

Anne Rice’s Talamasca: The Secret Order on AMC shows up just a few days before Halloween to liven up the season. For those of you who don’t recognize Talamasca, it’s a new television series created by John Lee Hancock that is based on The Vampire Chronicles and Lives of the Mayfair Witches by Anne Rice.

The Talamasca franchise includes two television series, Interview with the Vampire and Mayfair Witches. Now, Talamasca: The Secret Order, arrives to focus on the Talamasca, a secret society in Anne Rice’s novels who investigate the paranormal. Spooky!

AMC coined the term “Immortal Universe” with the October 2022 release of its Interview with the Vampire series. Notable characters include the vampires Lestat de Lioncourt and Louis de Pointe du Lac, the witch Rowan Mayfair and paranormal investigator and empath Ciprien Grieve.

If you’re an Anne Rice fan, you might want to check this out this six episode series. The first two episodes are available on AMC now. GRADE: Incomplete, but trending towards a B-

Oh, I like good vampire narratives. That does tend to leave Rice out. Half-assed purple…though the adaptations I’ve looked at occasionally were better than their source fiction.

Todd, Anne Rice has a devoted audience for her vampire books. And, apparently, Rice’s fans are watching the vampire series on AMC.

Shows like this used to come and go every few seasons on the old WB / CW. They all seemed innocuous enough and pretty much off my radar but for those who wanted to kill an hour here and there they seemed to fit the bill. Now they are ridiculously expensive 8-10 episode shows with seasons running years apart leaving television viewers continually hunting for new shows. TV shouldn’t be this complicated.

My interest with modern witches extends about as far as vintage Fritz Leiber. Also, not every IP needs its own “universe.”

Byron, the key word for most streaming services and TV networks is “franchise.” Anything to draw viewers in to multiple episodes and seasons…

Nope! As I age, I find myself less drawn to spooky, horrorific tales! Knowing who the next mayor of NYC might be is scary enough! What’s happened to you people, Jeff?

I’m a fan of vampire fiction and enjoyed a couple of Anne Rice books, but the only TV series recently I liked ( not loved) was Lestat. I saw another series for about 4 episodes before giving up. I’m also not liking Watson so haven’t watched the new season.

One thing I am liking is trivial pursuit hosted by levar burto and the floor. I really liked raid the cage, but I think it was cancelled.
