When I was a kid, I loved reading Green Arrow comic books. Green Arrow had no superpowers. But he had these tricky arrows and he was intelligent. Like Batman, Green Arrow solved crimes more with brains than brawn. Now, the CW Network has brought Green Arrow to cable TV in an action-drama. Oliver Green, a slacker billionaire’s son, survives a shipwreck and finds himself stranded on a remote island for five years. That experience changes him. When he’s finally rescued, Oliver Green decides he will devote himself to stopping crime in his home city. After just two episodes, Green Arrow is referred to as “The Vigilante” by the media. This is run-of-the-mill DC Comics storytelling: Oliver pretends to be the frivolous playboy he was by day, but at night he fights crime as Green Arrow. Mildly entertaining. Check out the trailer below. GRADE: B
Oliver Green?
I guess that’s where “Green” Arrow comes from, Randy, in this cable TV universe.
I have been tempted by this one.
Todd Mason reminded me of ARROW after the first episode had slipped by me, Patti. But the full episodes are available online (where I watched them).
meh
ARROW is not must-see TV, Jeff. But, if you’re in the mood for low-rent action-drama, ARROW does the job.
I watched the first episode and enjoyed it. Plan to watch the second one today.
I like ARROW despite the weak acting and low-rent production values, Bill. There’s a hint of a “sense of wonder” aspect to the story and the hero.
I guess if they bring back Dannay & Lee’s detective creation again it will be “Ellery Green”.
Ha, Art! I don’t see any of the networks attempting to present the cerebral-type of Ellery Queen story in the 21st Century. Everything is dumbed down.
Good one, Art. I’d rather read the comics / graphic novels, thanks.
I’d rather do both, Rick. ARROW is watchable, but I love the classic comics.
Thanks for this, George, though I really doubt that I will watch it until it comes out on DVD. I just don’t have time to keep up with new shows, and I can’t stand commercials any more, even if I can fast forward through them.
I’m sure the DVD set will be out in a few months, Steve. I know what you mean by zipping through the commercials…tedious!!!
