BLACK MAN, WHITE HOUSE: AN ORAL HISTORY OF THE OBAMA YEARS By D. L. Hughley

black man white house
Comedian D. L. Hughley “translates” the Obama Years in the White House with wicked political commentary in Black Man, White House. Hughley uses the device of “quotes” from the major players in this political drama: the Clintons, the Bushes, Mitt Romney, Joe Biden, Sarah Palin, John McCain, and dozens of others. D. L. Hughley has had comedy specials on HBO and Showtime. Hughley’s first book was I Want You to Shut the F#ck Up. Chris Rock haled it as “the best book since The Hunger Games. Black Man, White House is just as good. GRADE: B+

Patti, Obama has had to deal with so much gun violence I’m sure he’ll be happy to leave the White House. It takes a toll.

What Patti said. I’ll miss his mature, steady, calm, intelligent leadership and our elegant First Lady (IMHO, she has had to endure more opprobrium than he has–and neither of them deserved an ounce of it). It’s been fun watching their lovely daughters grow up too. I’m a Hillary gal and hoping for her victory in November (I can’t even allow my mind to dwell on the alternative), but I’d be lying if I said I won’t miss our current president and his family.

Deb, Obama’s Approval Number continues to rise as his term comes to an end. People are finally realizing the kind of President they had the last 8 years…and what future President they might have in November.

Prashant, you are correct in your assessment.

The Republicans continue to demonize Obama in the most shameless and scurrilous way, as even someone who refuses to watch their Convention can tell you just from reading about it. Trump says there is “something going on there” suggesting Obama really is a Muslim supporter of terrorists. Antonio Sabato, Jr. (surely an astute political observer as well as a former underwear model) went further, claiming straight out that he can tell Obama is a Muslim.

This sh!t has gone on for 8 years now and I defy anyone to tell me a lot of it isn’t racially motivated.

A lot, but not all. Some like Ben Carson are just bat sh!t crazy, as his suggestion yesterday that Hillary is a devil worshiper because she praised Saul Alinsky. Of course, Cap’n Bob might agree with him… .

    😉

I agree Jeff, Deb & Patti. The Obama family has shown a lot of class, and put up with way too much undeserved crap. I’ve loved Obama at the Wash. Correspondent’s dinners. I’m not spending a lot of time, really next to none, on following the gop convention, other than to shudder at the continual lies, so hadn’t heard the devil worshiper comment, and my paper’s not here yet.

I’m really scared Trump may be elected. I’m wondering if the gop will start pushing another candidate as a write in, which will split the party. I’m thinking that might be a best case scenario.

Maggie, the GOP appears divided. But Trump has surprised everyone for the past year. Expect the unexpected.

Thanks, Jeff. I have been reading how the Republicans have been stonewalling and criticising President Obama every step of the way through these last eight years. It can’t have been easy on him and his family. And yet, he has been dignified and composed all through the lies and the ordeal. I think they hate him because they know he is a good man and a makes a fine President. Of course, they are loath to admit it.

PS. I saw Hugely co hosting on Kelly, and think he’d be a good replacement for Strahan. I’ve enjoyed him in everything I’ve seen him do.

Better a devil worshipper than a Hitlery worshipper, I always say! Last I heard Obama’s approval rating was 50%. Not an overwhelming endorsement! I don’t demonize him but I think his record is pretty lame!

I also think Obama has been a very good POTUS – those crazies that call him either a Muslim or a Communist prove this imho.

        PS:

In a way I’m a fan of all these “constipation theories” that the tin foil hat gangs produve and read up on them on the snopes.com site.

It’s really unbelievable wht some people come up with! Are Americans really that stupid or are these tin foil hatter (you know HAARP, NWO, chemtrails etc ) just a tiny minority? I hope so at least …

Wolf, the number of American conspiracy theorists seems to grow by the day. We have a number of “Talk Radio” personalities like Rush Limbaugh that feed the paranoia of the populous. And FOX NEWS on cable TV is dedicated to attacking Obama and the Democrats 24 hours a day!

George, I just read that the behaviour of Faux News’s head, especially his sexually molesting many women, was too atrocious even for the conservaive owner Murdoch, so Ailes (that’s his name I believe) will have to leave.

Wolf, FOX NEWS and the Republicans bill themselves as the supporters of “Family Values.” Yet this kind of “bad behavior” keeps happening to them. Roger Ailes will be in court for the next couple of years (like Bill Cosby) dealing with sexual Harassment law suits.
