BOOP!: THE MUSICAL

BOOP!” is a musical tribute to the cartoon character Betty Boop. The musical starts in the cartoon world where Betty Boop is tried of being chased by men and performing challenging feats. Betty (Jasmine Amy Rogers) yearns for “something else.”  Grampy (Stephen DeRosa), sends Betty to the vibrantly colored world of 2025 Manhattan via his TransDimensional Teleporter where Betty lands in the midst of a Comic Con convention. From there, Betty’s adventures in the Real World feature plenty of energetic songs and dances.

I enjoyed “Boop!” as a silly afternoon performance of an Old Fashioned musical of the Depression variety. Jasmine Amy Rogers is amazing and despite the shallow plot, there’s plenty of fun in this production. GRADE: B (for boop, boop, de doop!)

Jeff, Mother’s Day Weekend was a wild time! We saw FIVE shows including OLD FRIENDS (my review will be posted on Saturday). I’ve never seen Times Square so crowded!

Meanwhile, in the television “upfronts”, I think you’ll be happy to be assured that HIGH POTENTIAL has been renewed and has done very well in its first season…likewise DOC (the current Fox series, not the old Pax series with Billy Ray Cyrus) also did very well, as it should…it struck me as an upgrade on CHICAGO HOPE much the same way that THE PITT was an upgraded ER. I will miss SUITS LA as mildly diverting and featuring an almost ridiculously attractive cast of actresses, even by tv standards.

Todd, Diane and I enjoyed HIGH POTENTIAL and we’re glad it’s coming back next Fall. I’m watching the French version–HIP: HIGH INTELLECTUAL POTENTIAL–and find that entertaining, too!

HPI: HAUT POTENTIEL INTELLECTUEL, though if you took the US version as being entitled THIGH, it would be understandable! I’ve liked it better since the pilot.
