BREVILLE SMART OVEN PRO (BOV845BSS)

We’re hosting Thanksgiving again and expect from six to 10 people at our table. Patrick, Katie, Diane, me, my brother and his wife are certainties. But, we always take in a few “strays” as well. The 16-lb Plainville turkey will take up most of the room in our GE oven. Diane plans to offer both white potatoes and sweet potatoes. And green beans. Plus, dinner rolls. We needed more oven space.

We’ve listened to friends rave about their Breville Smart Oven Pro. Diane had some great coupons for Bed, Bath and Beyond so we checked out the Breville Smart Oven Pro and bought it. This unit features an interior oven light so we can keep an eye on what’s cooking.
10 pre-set cooking functions include: toast 6 slices, bagel, bake, roast, broil, pizza, cookies, reheat, Warm, slow cook. Capacity: 6-slice toaster, 13″ pizza. Convection powered: an inbuilt fan that circulates the hot air within the oven. It speeds the cooking process by stripping away the cold air that surrounds the food. Non-stick cavity coating: the walls on the inside of the oven feature a non-stick coating for easy cleaning.

If you’re looking for the ultimate toaster oven, check out the Breville Smart Oven Pro! GRADE: A

    Nice machine/contraption/appliance!

George, this gives me the chance (again) to tell the story of my wife’s first visit to the USA:
When Hungary became part of the visa waiver program I asked her if she wanted to come with me to Florida – there were really good offers last minute in November 2008 for flights and hootels too and she of course agreed. She had known the USA only from movies and tv – and that’s not real life …

She was surprised and shocked by many things (usually in a positive way) – especially by the food portions and since we arrived just before Thanksgiving there were these gigantic frozen turkeys in the Publix in Miami Beach. She wondered how so much meat could be eaten by a family and I explained to her that Thanksgiving is the biggest family feast where you might have a dozen visitors – like you will have…
And that of course the leftovers will be used for sandwiches and salads etc and the she said:
I understand, just like when my parents would slaughter a lamb or even a pig in “Socialist” times …

We still remember that first visit to the USA and all its highlights like Key West …
Luckily we were there before Irma hit – though in the Everglades we saw what a hurricane had done – I told her how different Flamingo had looked before that storm (forgot the name).

Great story, Wolf. The hurricane that hit the Everglades and the area south of Miami was Andrew in 1992. A year or two before that, we had been in the Everglades and eaten at a little roadside barbecue shack that had delicious food. I always assumed it was blown away by the hurricane.

Nice! We just “stimulated the economy” with the purchase of a Breville electric wok—which John is using to prepare some mouth-watering stir fry dishes. We also bought an “air-fryer” (not from Breville)—supposedly oil-free frying, but imho simply a countertop oven. However, the food it produces is good, although in no way does it resemble fried food. As for Thanksgiving, John smokes the turkey (after bring it for at least 24 hours) while I make the side dishes: mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, creamed spinach, stuffing, gravy, pecan pie, and pumpkin pie. Sigh—my A1C numbers are going to be through the roof in a few weeks.

My parents always used theirs but we have never been sure we would get enough use out of it and it would join the army of appliances in the cabinets. Let us know.

Patti, our friends swear by their Breville. They use the Breville almost exclusively since it’s just the two of them now that their kids have scattered to the winds. I’ll post a Breville update after the Holidays.

Jackie insisted I go back to Costco yesterday to pick up that 14-cup Cuisinart coffee maker you recommended a few weeks ago, as they had it on sale for $59.99. I used it for the first time today and it was good! Unlike our last one, this doesn’t drip, and it keeps the coffee hot.

Besides, she has to keep stimulating the economy.

We’re having turkey, stuffing with chestnuts, roast potatoes, cranberry jello mold, and sugar-free chocolate pudding pie for my birthday dessert.

Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday of the year.

Jeff, congratulations on the new Cuisinart coffee maker! Our Cuisinart works great! With the crowd we expect on Thanksgiving, the 14-cup capacity will come in handy!
