BUFFALO BILLS VS. JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS IN LONDON, ENGLAND

buffalo bills vs. jacksonville jaguars
By the time you read this post, the Bills and the Jags will be playing in Wembley Stadium. Kickoff is at 9:30 A.M. EST. The big feature about this game is that YAHOO is going to stream this game online. And CBS will be broadcasting it in “selected areas.” The Bills’ starting quarterback, Tyrod Taylor, is out with a knee injury. Wide receiver Sammy Watkins is out due to an ankle injury. LeSean McCoy should play even though he’s hampered by a hamstring problem. The Bills should win this game, but the Jags could surprise them. How will your favorite NFL team fare today?

My team won on Thursday. I think the Bills are going to have their lunch money taken. I hope I’m wrong. BTW, it’s 1:36 a.m. here.

Good luck. The trip to London and aftermath and can be debilitating but at least the Bills are playing the lousy Jaguars.

After last week’s debacle in Philly the Giants face the hated – but decimated – Cowboys today at 4:30. a game they need to win. I have little confidence so far, but they really should win this one. I’m hoping they get help from Carolina over the Eagles tonight. The Jets have been riding high so far but they travel to Foxboro today at 1, so not much chance there.

Jeff, I’ll be rooting for the Jets. New England faces Miami on Thursday Night Football. After this London game, the Bills go into a Bye Week.

It’s 5:50 AM out here and they aren’t playing yet. What we’ve got is Yahoo’s fantasy football show (gack) featuring a blonde Erin Andrews clone, right down to the hairdo. I’ll watch the game for a while as a curiosity and go back to bed. So did Rex bring a case of the Bill’s fave brand of toilet paper along to London?

Art, Rex brought a wounded team to London. The QB is out, the running backs are hurt, and the star wide receiver is wearing a walking boot. Not good.

I have relatives in England. Their comment: Stop trying to make American football happen on the other side of the pond. Apparently, it’s mostly American ex-pats (and a few curious Englishmen) who go to these games.

Back to the games in the U.S. of A. After an unexpected win over the Falcons on the Thursday night game a week ago, the 2-4 Saints travel to Indianapolis to take on the 3-3 Colts. Despite the bright spot of the Saints previous win, I don’t hold out much hope for today’s game as the boys in black and gold go limping along to the end of this forgettable season.

Deb, the Colts are a troubled team. They should be doing a lot better with a QB like Andrew Luck. I read somewhere that the Colts defense is the oldest in the NFL. The Bills used to play a game in Toronto, Canada each year. The NFL is trying to expand around the world!

For what it’s worth, Deb – probably not much, I know – the NY Times is picking the Saints over the Colts.

Streaming update. Picture looks fine. In live shots of announcers & anthem singer sound is a hair out of synch. Won’t be an annoyance during on-field action. Talk about NFL conspicuous consumption! I assume The Shield shelled out to ship the entire Ohio State band over for the anthem performance. England has great brass bands, why not hire one of them? Sheesh!

Art, I’ll be surprised if the Ohio State band is shown even for a moment at Half-time. So far, the game is a disaster for the Bills! 27-3! Yikes!

Uh, oh. Fumble return for a touchdown, followed by an interception return for a touchdown? I see a lot of early drinking in the Buffalo area.

Halftime, bedtime. Entertaining – probably not in Buffalo – if you like turnovers. Like every other sports stream I’ve watched, the signal occasionally flickers to short spells of low def. I give the Bills, despite the awful 2nd quarter, a better than even chance of beating the woeful Jags.

Art, the Bills took a brief lead, but allowed the Jags to score AGAIN! Where is the vaulted Rex Ryan defense? Nowhere this season! Fire the bum!

There still seems to be a large distance in perception regarding sports between the USA and Europe – I have to confess that I never could understand the fascination with baseball, American football, basketball etc …

On the other hand – a bit OT:
Our young ones are big fans of the formula 1 races and yesterday they stayed up till midnight for the qualifying in Austin (btw one of the nicest cities in the US, enjoyed my short stay there 10 years ago very much) – only to find them cancelled because of the storm …

Don’t know whether they will wait for the big race tonight or whether it will even be started …

Hope the country won’t be hit too hard by that hurricane!

Austin is lucky, the rain and storm has subsided! Hope New Orleans won’t be hit again. I’d also hate to see the Texas coast disturbed, you know:
Galveston, oh Galveston … is one of my favourite songs!

We’re watching the race right now – though I find it all a bit boring, that’s why I’ve got my computer on my lap surfing …

Everybody have a nice Sunday, for us in Europe it’s soon bedtime!

The Bills are getting what they asked for by hiring Rex Ryan. Didn’t they wonder why all those other teams fired him? I know they have many injuries, but the D ought to be much better. I couldn’t get the Yahoo stream (Yahoo hates me) and the game’s not broadcast – apparently the NFL didn’t want to put it on its own channel, so they don’t care much – so the hell with it.

No other games interest me except Monday night, so I’ll have lots of time to clean the house and get ready for the big party.

Rick, I question the number of Bills injuries. Why isn’t the Conditioning Coach getting the players in better shape? And what happened to last year’s NFL best pass rush? The Bills sacked opposing QBs 54 times in 2014. Now, they DEs drop into pass coverage! Ridiculous!

Our (late English friend Bob Adey, while a big cricket and football (soccer) fan, was also interested in American football and baseball. I believe he saw some games here in Texas (Arlington ) or St. Louis.

I think this is the last year the Chargers will be my home team. They are determined to go to LA and share a stadium with the Raiders in Carson, which from all I hear is a real dump. If they don’t go, hope they still don’t want the taxpayers to build their stadium.

My “real” favorite team is the Packers. Love Aaron Rodgers, who lives here in the off season. I was glad they beat the chargers when they played them.

Maggie, I don’t know what the obsession is with the NFL to move not one, but two teams to the L.A. area. I think the Chargers should stay in San Diego, but apparently the owner has Other Ideas.

the last our paper printed was the owner doesn’t want to lose the 25% of the fan base that lives in LA Apparently the 75% that lives in SD is not worthy of concern

Our paper had an article about the meeting with the NFL, and I’m guessing we’ll lose the chargers not sure if the raiders and chargers will share the stadium in Carson Ca. The Rams have a viable alternative in STL, but the owner really wants to move to LA, and I’ve heard he’s going to do it whether or not the NFL allows it. Sounds like a really big mess is coming

Maggie, I’m still perplexed about the attraction of LA for NFL teams. The Rams left LA because the fans didn’t support them. That could easily happen again.

the raiders were there and also left not sure if it was lack of fan support or something else. I think the lure of la is all the high rollers, hollywood types, etc.

My favorite team is now officially the packers (but i do root for Buffalo for you, George) (Also like the saints, and did like the steelers before they signed michael vick and troy polamalu retired)
