BUFFALO BILLS VS. NY JETS

The long wait is over and the 2019 National Football League season finally kicks off today (I’m not counting that snooze-fest of the Packers vs. Bears Thursday night). Yes, we’ve had the wacky antics of Antonio Brown and the Oakland Raiders to divert us over the Summer, but now we get down to business. The Buffalo Bills face an AFC East divisional opponent in the New York Jets today. The Bills are 3-point underdogs. The question of who is developing faster, QB Josh Allen of the Bills or QB Sam Darnold of the Jets, will be settled this afternoon in the Meadowlands. Both quarterbacks were drafted in the First Round in 2018. Both QBs struggled last year in their rookie season. The QB that performs best today will likely come out with a win. How will your favorite NFL team perform today?

I am less than confident. Now that Ezekiel Elliott has re-signed with Dallas, it puts a damper on the Giants’ chances of winning in Dallas, which they rarely do, especially on Opening Day. And the decision to stick with an aging Eli Manning could haunt them again.

As my husband predicted, Antonio Brown was picked up by the Patriots less than 24 hours after the Raiders let him go. Hopefully, Bill Belichick will sit Brown down and communicate to him that he better quit being a prima donna if he wants to keep playing.

Anyway, it always feels too early for football when baseball hasn’t even reached the post-season yet, but the Saints take on the Texans in the Superdome tomorrow night in one of the Monday Night Football match-ups. I haven’t really been following the Saints during pre-season, so personnel changes have largely gone over my head. After last season’s Super Bowl dreams were dashed by an incomprehensible non-call in the last minute of the game, the Saints feel like they have something to prove (and hopefully the NFL officiating crew have all had their eyes examined), but only time shall tell and meanwhile there’s still baseball with (my daughters assure me) my future son-in-law, Dodger Cody Bellinger, still in the MVP and Home Run Leader races.

Deb, my baseball-loving friends are now obsessed with the Yankees vs. Red Sox series this weekend. The Texans have made several huge trades, but I don’t like any of them. I suspect the Saints will win that Monday Night Football game easily.

In Detroit baseball has been over with for months. I have little hope for a winning season for the Lions. Detroit used to have a lot of good sports teams but the last few years have been pretty bad.

Steve, the Buffalo sports scene has been a wasteland for our teams for the last decade, too. The Buffalo Sabres continue to lose and miss the Playoffs. The Bills just broke a 17-year Playoff draught.

Seahawks at home vs. Bengals. I didn’t watch any per-season. I don’t know what the Bengals have in terms of personnel (QB) this year, nor if they promise to be good. The Seahawks now have Clooney, if he’s healthy and bears down that will help. I don’t know who will win.

Bob, the Jets squandered four Buffalo Bills turnovers. Plus, the Jets need to find a new kicker who can actually made Extra Points and Field Goals!
