BYE WEEK

The hapless Buffalo Bills, with a losing record of 3-4, can’t lose this week because they’re on a bye. Last week’s loss in the waning moments of the game through ineptitude has fans around here howling for coaching firings and player trades. But, sadly, nothing will be done. This lame NFL franchise (12 years without a Playoff appearance) won’t be a consistent winner until the Buffalo Bills have a new owner who cares about winning. The current owner, 94-year-old Ralph Wilson, is in declining health. The team seems to be operating on Cruise Control. How is your favorite NFL team going to fare today?

And the Detroit Lions have needed a new owner far longer. As long as he makes money on the franchise, he will not care about put ting a winning team on the field.

FOX kept showing Jerry Jones as the Cowboys used their last series of downs to beat the Giants, Bill. But Dez Byrant’s fingertips on the white out-of-bounds line killed that opportunity.

Well Patti, you Lions defeated the Seahawks today. Sigh. I don’t care about the Giants-Cowboys game, so I’m playing with the computer. I finished one of the books on my long list of partially read ones. Starting another today, before the World Series. Go SF baseball Giants!

Those Steelers uniforms were like something you’d see on a bad acid trip.

The Giants almost gave away a game they had won but as usual Tony Romo refused to let them lose.

Hapless? Compared to the Chiefs this year they look like Super Bowl winners.

And the Cowboys! How do you not at least get a pass into the endzone at the end to try to pull off the miracle? Unbelievable.

I can’t remember a year in the NFL with so many mediocre teams, Carl. Most of them seem to be in the AFC. I’m old enough to remember when the Chiefs and the Bills were Playoff teams.

Nice win for the Broncos, who did well on both sides of the ball. The Saint’s defense is…interesting.

My condolences to Deb. This season can’t be much fun for her.

I told you the Broncos would be a force, Drongo. And, with San Diego struggling against AFC powerhouses like the Browns, it looks like the Broncos should have clear sailing to a division title. Of course, that assumes Payton stays healthy…

It wasn’t a great weekend for west coast NFL teams. Maybe tonight the Niners will win.

I was delighted with (sorry, Patti) the Giants sweep to win the Series. Good for them! Smallball wins one over the “big bats”, not that Sandoval wasn’t a big bat himself in Game 1.

Some baseball gurus on ESPN think the long layover for the Tigers hurt them in the World Series, Rick. I’m not a baseball aficionado so I don’t know if that’s true or not. The Niners should win.

Even when Arizona started 4-0 my father said the lack of an offensive line would do them in.

I almost always root for American League teams in the World Series but I’ve rooted for the Giants both times.

The Giants have won the World Series two of the past three years, Jeff. And the American League team, the Tigers, sure wasn’t competitive this year.
