TEENAGE DREAM By Katy Perry

Maybe I’m a teenager at heart, but I really like the music on this CD. Yes, it is pure fluff, but Katy Perry rocks in these songs. You’d have to be a cadaver not to react to this pop music. Katy Perry had a break-through hit last year with “I Kissed a Girl” (written by the underrated Cathy Dennis) and this summer Katy Perry’s hit song, “California Gurls” (NOT the Beach Boys classic), seemed to be on everybody’s car radio. Teenage Dream comes in two versions: the “Explicit” version and the “Clean” version. The music is the same, the lyrics vary. Critic Ken Tucker likes Teenage Dream, too. I included his review below. Leaving the music aside for a moment: Katy Perry is one of those people who seem to be ubiquitous these days, like Lady Gaga and Blake Lively. Every time you turn on the television or open a newspaper, there they are, usually exhibiting their body in a revealing outfit (not that there’s anything wrong with that).

    It annoys me.

As for the music, I don’t listen to new music.

    And stay off my lawn!

George, “I Kissed a Girl” was actually from 2008.

I’m not quite sure what I think about Katy Perry. Some of her music is pretty catchy, but like Lady Gaga she gets too much media exposure.

I did like the “California Gurls” video, at least the part where Perry shoots whipped cream from her breasts.

Oops, sorry about the dating of “I Kissed a Girl,” Drongo. I seemed to hear it everywhere in 2009 so it must have spilled over from 2008. Sadly, artists have to market themselves relentlessly in our current culture. Media exposure is a necessary evil for pop singers and performers.

“creamy canvases”? I didn’t hear that, but I have a mostly deaf ear to pop. The tiny clips sound like really generic oughts music, I don’t hear anything original or compelling, just a voice and a beat, fine for a song on the radio, but a whole album? Enjoy, George, I’ll stick with my classical, jazz and soundtracks. Oh and speaking of lawns, I don’t have one at the moment, though there is a narrow “green belt” out front that’s community area.
